Imagine what would happen on the WC board if he won another Brownlow this year....

Matthew Priddis dual Brownlow medallist has quite the ring to it :D
I think it would be similar to Bradbury going back to the Olympics and everybody else falling over again.

Port Adelaide vs West Coast
10 Le Cras (WCE)
8 Priddis (WCE)
4 R. Gray (PA)
3 Yeo (WCE)
2 Schofield (WCE)
2 Sheppard (WCE)
1 Wingard (PA)
The Eagles votes were pretty close to what I thought watching the game, except bizarrely not having Shuey anywhere. I had LeCras as best on because of his work all through the game, but Shuey was close given that he exploded in the crucial last quarter. LeCras, Shuey, Yeo, Priddis and Sheppard were my top 5, with a bunch of others close behind them.

That would be pretty close to my top 5 as well

He probably won'd slip in - but for a bloke who only had 10 touches, thought Cripps was outstanding

Priddis was good in a more limited role, but he wasn't a match winner.
8 second half clearances though. The guy that got subbed on for port was sent straight to Priddis with the job to impede him getting to the ball at stoppages (after which he was allowed to run off him). He was clearly in Hinkley's thinking.

He looks so much better when other guys stand up in the midfield. Since Yeo's been in there he's been able to have decent help there and that has improved his game dramatically. No longer is he having to carry the midfield and that means he can play solely as the extractor meaning he doesn't have to go by foot as much anymore. 31 disposals, 25 handballs, 21 contested, 9 clearances and 8 tackles shows just how much influence he had. Will only get better for him as Yeo, Sheed and Duggan progress.
So our brownlow medallist needed others to make him better?
Should be the other way around.

I think you guys are missing the point. Priddis has been and only ever will be a third or fourth mid and is one dimensional in that he is an inside player.
The heat is now off him as yeo and shuey are taking most of the attention along with lecras. Priddis is where he needs to be...third or fourth. He has never been able to drag our side anywhere near a contender like yeo and shuey are starting to do.
Its been our point all along and simpson moving him away from the main gig to the hff is proof of that.

Priddis has been an average afl player in the last few weeks. Notjing more and nothing less. Hes been instructed clearly to hand ball more because of his kicking.

All these points you priddis lovers are brushing under the carpet conveniently as simpson has clearly made the move because he has admitted after the freo debacle that "it was unnaceptable".

Now when he ia starting to be a decent footballer because of this you are crowing as is you won the argument but it is exactly the opposite.
I guarantee if selwood and rosa come back and we return to our usual vanilla midfield combo with priddis as lur number one we will return to shit.

Its glaringly obvious simpson has made the move and you priddis lovers are trying to gloss over it with stats but wont accept he is now on the way out and our argument has been validated.

My understanding is that Adam Simpson only wants two inside midfielders in the side , at the moment that is Priddis and Sheed , so Priddis will be around untill Waterman or Colledge get his spot .

It is a team game... you take him out and put in Alec Waterman... i daresay we lose that game

The vitriol at Priddis is that he has flaws. Yep I agree with them and I want him to be a support role.

However we don't say "Geez shepp was immense... but he wasn't a match winner"

Priddis contributed 3 goals (Gs and GAs) - the equal most of anyone in our team..

Unfortunately I think the lengthy Priddis debate has seen the opposiing camps embelish their argument to a point beyond what is reasonable.

I don't think he is an AA midfielder, but I don't think he is a WAFL footballer either. I'm enjoying seeing him in a role where our reliance on him is diminished. He was a link in a chain - not the chain itself.

I have no problem with that, I just don't think he was the second best on the ground. Shuey probably deserved at least a few votes...especially at the expense of Wingard.

He was, and has been all season. I would love to get an extended look at what a forward line with him, Kennedy and Darling in it looks like one day.

It looks like this :

The thing I don't get about this thread is why a few avid Priddis detractors get so fired up arguing with a few avid Priddis supporters when neither hold particularly popular views. The consensus among posters on this board would be that Priddis is a very good ball-winner with serious defects (pace, kicking etc) who plays best when he works to his limits and provides supply to better ball-users, as he did against Port. Hardly anyone here would say that he's in the top tier of midfielders in the league. Yet there's still such vitriol directed towards him on a personal level.

I'm well aware that building our midfield around Priddis has caused us major headaches but Simpson seems to have acknowledged that and adjusted accordingly. Not sure it'll ever stop a few posters from being hyper-critical of everything Priddis does.

To be fair Smotie, that's what most people have been saying all year.

Even the so called Priddis lovers acknowledge his limitations, while I myself have always believed him to be a third or fourth best míd.

We have always needed a better mix in there and with the addition of Sheed, Duggan and Yeo we now have such a beast.

Against Port he was a large contributor in a winning midfield and yes we won against a premiership fancy with him in the team.

Yes
I've been as big a Priddis critic as anyone but he has played some useful games so far this year and this was one of them. I think there definitely are more options in the midfield at the moment and that is what we have been screaming for. This has helped Priddis as he can now look at pure clerances and getting the ball from in close leaving the runners on the outside as options for NN taps. Looks much more balanced! Also it seems he is not jogging up and down the ground as much and maybe resting more in the forward half. This reduces the number of times the opposition run off him. In this role, he has certainly earned his game and those that don't want to give some credit where credit is due, would seem to be as obstinate as those who couldn't see the obvious faults which have existed for some time. He is still an average footballer though and I still can't understand how he won the Brownlow
I saw a port player run off duggan . I seen players run away from mcgovern in fact port probably had 50% of their team faster than 50% of our team . But matt catches more players apparently he leads tackles in the comp . but yes i will acknowledge that at times his chases he doesnt catch .

if priddis plays like he did in the first half i will be critical - if he plays like he did in the second half - i wont - i can not just live with - but be happy with the second half of his game - im waiting to watch it again but he might even cop an hm off me in the votes thread

but to see him copping second best in the coaches votes is a joke - there are players who played their hearts out on sunday - shep for one that deserve more recognition
