if priddis plays like he did in the first half i will be critical - if he plays like he did in the second half - i wont - i can not just live with - but be happy with the second half of his game - im waiting to watch it again but he might even cop an hm off me in the votes thread

but to see him copping second best in the coaches votes is a joke - there are players who played their hearts out on sunday - shep for one that deserve more recognition
Fair enough.

As you are probably aware I have swayed both ways in my assessment of Priddis but in that last quarter I found myself sub consciously looking for Priddis at every stoppage.

Strange as it may seem he and Masten of all people were immense at these stoppages when the game was won in the last term.

Not if there's no resting ruckman there. Play Darling as a high leading half forward.
Spot on that's exactly where Darling should play.

Kennedy is trying to do both with him out. Kennedy is high up on the list for inside 50's this season with a game high of 6 in one match.

darling as a hhf is aa material - i just dont see him as anything more than makeshift anywhere else - in the midfield is a disaster - wish people would give up on that tripe - id rather have priddis - at least he "gets it"

lol - icb i just said that

Will be interesting to see how strongly Darling comes back. It feels like we tried to turn him into more of a midfielder last year and it seemed to affect his marking ability and general impact on the game. Wonder if he dropped a few kgs to try and build up his tank to play in the middle, meaning he got outbodied a bit more in marking contests.

I'm uploading some video edits of this weeks game. One video which is solely priddis' involvements and the other is edits of the hard, skillful work done by the midfielders who are carrying priddis.

in the meantime while it uploads, for your viewing pleasure..

But where would Shuey be without quality handballs like that?

At l priddis didnt get caught holding the ball . It wasnt turned over was it . If u look at it correctly it was a clever play

I would take Ginner in there every day of the week over priddis!!
all you require priddis to do is pick up ball off floor and handball - which he is average at anyway.
that makes somehow makes him a superhero??

No its not clever it is useless .. .WHY can't he run off drawing 1-2 players, bursting away .. at least take on a tackler ahead .. there is space. whiich also means Shuey has better chance to be open and on the move. why can't he kick it with penetration into the forward 50 ?? You play a player who can do more than "go in a git it" and there may be a chance they could

Commentators said it was clever play for priddis to handpass to shuey so there was no turnover . Just a ball up . I didnt see the space u were refeŕing to that he could have run into but i have seen Priddis do many many a sidestep turn around bamboozle . I love his style man

That's probably why you will never be an AFL coach. This was a silly comment when you first said it and it is still silly. McGinnity is probably the weakest player on our list and will be the first delisted at seasons end.

Whilst it wasn't a particularly bad game from Matt, he certainly was not in the top 5 BOG.

How both coaches voted him 2nd best after Lecras without Shuey getting a sniff is beyond me. Sadly i think we all know who'll poll the 3 brownlow votes in that game, and unfortunately it won't be Mitch McGovern.

I'd have Yeo, Sharrod, Sheppard, Shuey, Mcgovern, and Lecras all easily ahead of Priddis in an honest assessment.

To be fair, the Shue did call for it.

Did strike me at the time as a poor handball too, you can see Matt hesitate for a split second before giving it off which probably meant Shuey was never going to avoid being tackled. Oh well, out of 30 touches i can accept a few errors.

I think Priddis plays a role within the team and that role is both useful and adequately executed: an extractor of the footy, who works the ball out of congestion to our classier midfielders. He has deficiencies that are well known, but has tended to play to his strengths this season. I think he is more effective than ever now that Yeo and Shuey are starting to really step up their games in the middle and that he has been relegated to a role that better suits his skillset.

[EDIT] I also like the way in which he has really focussed on keeping his kicks to a minimum this year, i think both he and the coaches have acknowledged that this was a major weakness of his and he has been a more effective player by limiting his disposal by foot.

The thing I don't get about this thread is why a few avid Priddis detractors get so fired up arguing with a few avid Priddis supporters when neither hold particularly popular views. The consensus among posters on this board would be that Priddis is a very good ball-winner with serious defects (pace, kicking etc) who plays best when he works to his limits and provides supply to better ball-users, as he did against Port. Hardly anyone here would say that he's in the top tier of midfielders in the league. Yet there's still such vitriol directed towards him on a personal level.

I'm well aware that building our midfield around Priddis has caused us major headaches but Simpson seems to have acknowledged that and adjusted accordingly. Not sure it'll ever stop a few posters from being hyper-critical of everything Priddis does.
That is how it started originally
A question of his role / ability.
Some people questioned it 5 years ago and were met with a barrage of
"At least he gets it"
"Only one who tries"
"Coaches love him"
"He gets Brownlow votes"
"Look...stats stats and more stats"

So if you were to come on and declare that position that you have...that is now widely accepted 3-4 years ago you would have got the any of the above replies hidden behind a "oh I just don't like that you slag him off" gatekeeper response and here we are.

I don't think anyone is being hyper critical. I thought he did his role, did I think he was awesome in the clinches? No
Do I think he deserved near on BOG status by the coaches? No
Think people ... myself included are amused at the lauding he gets for executing basic skills like he tore the game apart with a ground ball win and handball.

Shuey was blindsided though, from the angle on tv it looks like Priddis would have had a perfect view of the Port player bearing down on Shuey before still handballing it off to him.
