Why do you guys crack the sads when people acknowledge Priddis played well? Its bizarre. There is more than enough negative stuff in here to balance out any praise that is given.

Actually there has been plenty of times in this thread that the anti squad have acknowledged good games - troll back through the thread and show us where a pro has acknowledged a horror...

As i said they just dissappear for a few weeks.

Exactly we got smashed in clearances but win by 100
What does that tell u bout the precious counting stats and their worship
And the effectiveness of the 'extractorrr'
I think what it's highlighting is what everyone has really wanted over the last few years.
A stoppage strategy that doesn't involve Priddis as the "go to person". This has been very effective as we are less predictable, and we are also getting more midfielders doing more of the harder work which has/will be better for their development.
I would of thought that this thread would be getting lees attention due to Simpsons/Pykes stoppage setups.

I always thought smotie was the most 'passionate shit all over Priddis no matter what' poster on this board. I congratulate him for recognising Priddis having a good game.

Well done to domo for now becoming the most 'passionate shit all over Priddis no matter what' flog. I hope you take that achievement and run with it, like you so evidently are. McIness > Priddis. Lol.

I've already acknowledged his good game, but what annoys me is the blind stupidity yet again from the media.

"Led by Matt Priddis...." he didn't lead shit.

Lets compare shall we? Yeo had 2 more clearances, 3 more marks (1 more contested), 1 more contested possession, and kicked 2 more goals.

Priddis had 14 more uncontested possessions, 1 more tackle....... that's it.

Why isn't anyone saying Yeo led us to victory? He clearly played the better game and took it by the scruff of the neck.

Priddis plays at the same level from the first minute to the last. He is amazingly fit. Yeo has 2 great quarters but will get more consistent. They are both highly valuable to the team.

I'd have thought an extra 2.2, leading the eagles in clearances, and having more contested possessions than "the extractor" would be a clear win.
He had two more clearances and one more contested possession FFS. I gave Yeo the 5 votes, but this is just nitpicking in the extreme considering many other people thought Priddis was BOG too.

This thread should have been shut ages ago, it's a joke..everyone other than a few posters who have clearly never played any sort of football at all can understand Priddis' value, thus his brownlow and accolades from rival coaches, players etc.
He's never going to be that player who bursts through packs kicking goals from 60 out, but he more than makes up for it with the small things he does..by being the hardest at the ball, getting the first touch on it out to players like Yeo and Shuey..running ahead to link up play...these things aren't glamorous but doesn't detract him from being a very good footballer.
In the 2nd qtr? whilst in the middle, tell me how many players would have stood up in a tackle against a couple suns, to be able to get his arms free and handball it over the top to eagles players.

It's not nitpicking. One player is being universally lauded, and as per usual other deserving players in the team are not.

Think of the children. This ridiculous affection the media has for Matt Priddis is a joke.

Simpson saying others needed opportunity in the midfield so priddis was played elsewhere.
He is acknowledging priddis should not be the main guy in there.
Plus developing for the inevitable priddis retirement.

what a nimrod thing to say - you dont agree with me so you never played footy

i played footy into my early 20's - depending on the season ive gone though phases where i watch nearly every game played - i watch eagles games at least twice each sometimes more

so essentially you list one thing that he does badly - a bunch of things that he does from fair to excellent - and leave out a whole bunch of things that he consistently spuds up - round that off with an appeal to authority and a swipe at whether people have played footy at all - and put a cherry on top in the assertion that the thread should be closed.

I found Simmo's specific language interesting

Something about Priddis not being in the middle "every year or even every game"

As time goes on Simpson is striking me as a very politically savvy coach.
Adam Simpson is a smart fella except for his Chicken Sex video in which he was universally criticised .

And deservedly so. Unfortunately they can't say "Led by Priddis, Yeo, Masten, Shuey, Wellingham, Hurn…." all in one headline.
Well howbout for one week, just one, they actually praise the best player for WCE for once, not just automatically Matt Priddis?

It was Yeo last night, maybe even the past 3 weeks actually, and has been Mcgovern throughout the year.

I don't think this is the week to make that argument. Fully half the voters in the forum POTY thread gave Priddis the 5, so it wasn't really clear cut this week.

Besides....a couple of weeks back the media were trying to make the case that Jack Watts might have had a better career to date than NicNat. Is it really worth complaining about how bad the media are? Just have a chuckle and move on.

Very noticeably Priddis is spending significant minutes forward this year to "share the load"

He is a rubbish lead out forward or contested mark - but he has been ok being under the marking packs. He needs to get his goal tally up to 15 goals this year, given his role. Mind you he is 5th in the league for goal assists this year

Big tick to Simmo I reckon - this board has been well aware of the midfield rot for a while - and there is a clear direction ahead.

exactly!! LOL replicate that first and then come in here crowing about "brownlow medalist on fire" or "prolific" "damaging" .. carrying the midfield. BOG etc.
please.
in case you didn't notice masten got 43 ... 43 is higher than 41 .. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! awesome!! your the best!!

pridda's first quarter was at a standard you should hope to expect from an AFL player. the 3 smothers he got tonight was the best things he did.
Would appear to be a lot of AFL footballers running around who are not up to the standard " you hope to expect from an afl player"
Never mind, the AFL can afford it.

So you pretty much bitched about my post without stating what was wrong with it, this is why I don't post often there'll always be those who can't be reasoned with, similar to those who don't believe the holocaust happened.

Yep we need to develop other players in our midfield so priddis has been moved out of the centre setup for periods of the game . Shuey was also coming off the square a lot and was not utilised as an on baller as much.
So with our 2 best clearance mids not used in a lot of contests we were smashed in the clearances !
Lucky we were playing a undermanned team who couldn't adapt to our defensive structures and kept giving the ball back .
If it was a crucial game against a better opponent priddis and shuey will play more time on ball .
Our midfield looks much better now we have more quality mids playing well .
Does this make priddis position it the team redundant ?
No ******* way

Real happy that we've finally mixed up the composition of our midfield (yeo!), we've been so predictable for so long.

actually totally fine with priddis being in the side at the moment, he's a solid player who deserves a spot in the 22 so long as he's not being used as the number 1 mid

One of the arguments for not moving priddis on was there was nobody else.
Its clear that Simpson doesn't agree with that by playing others in there and playing priddis less.
That is the point of the discussion.
He has been moved since the freo game yet the priddis defenders don't and won't acknowledge this. Merely saying he is given a different role.
He is being given a different role because after the freo debacle Simpson said it wasn't acceptable and priddis was part of the unnaceptable. In fact he was the only change to that midfield setup and bringing yeo in to replace him for large periods of the game.
The fact he is playing better off a hff is a win albeit unexpected. Its not proof we were wrong all the faults we were highlighting, in fact it is confirmation that his limitations have been acknowledged by the match committee. The very people the priddis defenders hung their hat on as to his worth to the midfield.
Hopefully priddis can play well from the hff against teams like hawthorn and sydney.
But to argue priddis' form from the hff is deflecting the main discussion point about his worth to our midfield.
Clearly Simpson has appeased the masses by not dropping him but solved a problem (for now) by moving him and playing more attacking players in his place.
