He's spending more time forward which Simpson acknowledged in his presser, but to say he's been moved to the HFF is disingenous. He's still in the guts more often than he's in the forward line. He's averaged 35 touches and 7 clearances over the past fortnight, you can't get those numbers playing off a flank.

One of the arguments for not moving priddis on was there was nobody else.
Its clear that Simpson doesn't agree with that by playing others in there and playing priddis less.
That is the point of the discussion.
He has been moved since the freo game yet the priddis defenders don't and won't acknowledge this. Merely saying he is given a different role.
He is being given a different role because after the freo debacle Simpson said it wasn't acceptable and priddis was part of the unnaceptable. In fact he was the only change to that midfield setup and bringing yeo in to replace him for large periods of the game.
The fact he is playing better off a hff is a win albeit unexpected. Its not proof we were wrong all the faults we were highlighting, in fact it is confirmation that his limitations have been acknowledged by the match committee. The very people the priddis defenders hung their hat on as to his worth to the midfield.
Hopefully priddis can play well from the hff against teams like hawthorn and sydney.
But to argue priddis' form from the hff is deflecting the main discussion point about his worth to our midfield.
Clearly Simpson has appeased the masses by not dropping him but solved a problem (for now) by moving him and playing more attacking players in his place.
There's so much spin in this post you should consider a career in politics. The re-framing of the narrative in the bolded part is a thing of beauty.

Also we've had lots of discussion points over the journey, so quit telling us which one the main one is. That's just your opinion, especially seeing as the thread used to be called "how much longer can Priddis be played?". In my opinion the main point of this thread was that he needed to be dropped because he couldn't play another role and was hindering the development of our younger inside mids, something that is clearly not the case now.

No he isn't. Simpson himself said he wasn't in there to provide opportunities for others.

You need to watch the game again. He is spending most of his time in the front half playing as a high half forward. Yes he is contesting stoppages but mostly in the front half.
But like I said. Priddis lovers can't admit a clear change has been made and made by the match committee including the expert Simpson.

As above he still starts in the middle, rests forward a little, his role hasn't change. It's had no effect on why we've been playing better as you claim, players like yeo duggan and shuey stepping up has, we now have more options which had decreased Priddis' need to just bomb it long.

Except Simpson himself said priddis wasn't playing in the midfield to give others opportunities.
So apart from that you are correct and the coach is wrong.

A change has indeed been made - he's spending more time in the forward line. He's not "playing off a hff". If you think he got 39 touches playing off a flank you're more delusional than when you said McGinnity was a better player.

What Simpson actually said was:
"Our midfield is developing. We're excited about our balance of midfielders but we need to give opportunities to some players, we can't just rely on Pridda every year, every week, so for us to be a good side we need flexibility. He knows there's times he needs to play forward, the same with all of our midfielders. To get good depth in there we need to give them opportunity. I don't think he was doing anything different than he was doing in previous weeks."

You mean duggn Yeo and lecras.. who

Duggan - first year on list
Yeo - first year remotely fit (and injued)
Lecras - who has been trialled in the guts and has been in and out injured

So you pretty much bitched about my post without stating what was wrong with it, this is why I don't post often there'll always be those who can't be reasoned with, similar to those who don't believe the holocaust happened.

are you blind - i clearly stated what was wrong with it

And the point is?

He is still playing different players in there. Doesn't matter when they started. I clearly said "after the Freo debacle"

To be fair Smotie you are one of a few that wanted Priddis totally out of the team.

Most others on here acknowledged his limitations and saw the need for a better mix in the midfield and this is what we now have.

I believe that Simpson has the makings of a great coach and is already making a difference in recognising where we can use the strengths of some unpopular players to the benefit of the team. The classic examples are Hill, Wellingham, Masten, Cripps, Sheppherd and Butler who are currently arguably playing career best footy.

Priddis can also fit into this category. I think Priddis said yesterday that Simpson encourages his players to play to their strengths.

I don't know if you remember Simpson playing footy but he was a fantastic leader and the ultimate team player and this is what he brings to the coaching table.

We have now won 9 of our last 12 games, loosing to Essendon in 2014 by 3 points and 10 points to the Doggies before the blowout against the Purples.

If you can't see improvement there I'd be amazed.

I've taken you off ignore. Don't make me put you back on for putting words in my mouth again.
I never said I can't see improvement apart from the freo debacle and to a lesser extent the dogs.
We are discussing priddis and his limited improvement has come off the back of his change of role. The focus being taken off him and yeo etc playing midfield.
You are wrong though. Most on here said priddis was exceptional and the fault was the other mids. Comments like "its not his role to chase" etc etc.
Now that he is playing better you priddis lovers have a short memory.
Well one expert in Simpson has made a change and none of you have conceded we were correct.
Deflections all over again.
Obviously I see improvement and my comments have been reflecting that including comments about priddis' improvent.

But does this mean you now are happy to have him in the team with his reduced time as the main man?

I dunno bout smootdog but I certainly don't see any point on playing him at all. Even the pridiot lovers spell out his limitations the kind of which I do not want or will accept in a player playing in our mvp rover position. His limitations are so bad he can be played almost no where else hence Simpson putting him at half forward. this is okay when u are 10 goals up.
He is lost on defence rebound floating around aimlessly hoping for a stoppage to catch up. he can't compete as a true half forward. So the writing is on the wall imo it's inevitable.

So why not play a player who has 1-2 other attributes priddis doesn't even if as the priddites finally are conceding, he is now 4th or 5th best mid??
Why settle for a player like this at all

I'm happy if he continues this form. The real test is against top sides. He is kicking less which is obviously a directive.

Simpson has IMO worked out some strategies to work around his deficiencies, he wasn't just accepting his limitations because he's Matt and a brownlow medalist

Many in here were.

See what happens.

I dont think many people on here are Priddis lovers more West Coast lovers , we so called " Priddis Lovers " probably react to this thread because the mods keep it going and ....2. We are sticking up for a guy who gives his heart and soul to the club regardless .

IF its becoming a West Coast thing to bag out your players regardless of their performance each week , then its a detriment and hard to read .

Those criticizing are not questioning his "heart and soul" or commitment to the team or his character .. I don't know why WCE fans (priddites) feel this protective need to rush defend those things in retaliation? - Unless you can show otherwise.. eg. Judd for leaving? You might be pissed at a player in terms of commitment/heart then. Those aspects have never been put on the table as Priddis failings. Well I don't. Yes I've bagged his appearance - do meme pics more for a laugh and my own way of dealing with it. And to try not taking AFL and this all so seriously all the time - You could give me shit as a supporter for doing that. But hell, if you check out my Badger facebook page - he cops it from me and I love him!

What's interesting to me is what his role is now becoming. He had 4 clearances and 30 of his disposals were uncontested... He's playing a fair bit of the Cousins loose extra mid forward of the ball as well as his work at stoppages - in more current terms he's Masten but forward of the ball as opposed to behind the ball ... On the weekend he got a lot of the ball in space and given the shitness of the opposition was rarely under any real pressure and, 2 or 3 inexplicable brain farts aside, his disposal was ok... He lacks any speed at all and, at best, he'll make a solid decision and a solid disposal ... And he works his arse of to get into space and be available ...

We are definitely transitioning him away from that "he's the man" role and he's being told to run and run and get into space... He's less damaging than others in that role, so he gets given space and, seriously, he could get 50 against some sides on the right day in that sort of role ... It is though a trade off against a guy who works slightly less hard (or works AFL standard hard but doesn't have Matts elite tank) and gets maybe 25 (think Harley Bennell in that same role) with much more damage. I mean yesterday was outside Matt getting 39 touches and he's being celebrated and I get that but I'm still unsure what happens when we play good sides when it matters ... and I'm kinda unsure what his game really means .. I mean Masten was rightly given Top 3 by most but that's on the back of 43 touches, almost half of which came in the entirely pointless and meaningless last quarter ...

I thought Yeo of the mids owned the game when we won it and Shuey was damaging when we had our highest quarter ever but I thought the weekends win was based on our half backs as a collective setting us up given our mids got killed at the contests ... Our mids then all became receivers ...

But Butler, Hurn, Shep, Wellingham pretty much played as our first line of ball getters and a lot of the rest fed off them ... Except in the 3rd where we dominated the midfield and oddly that was when Matt had his biggest rest ...

I'm not criticising his effort or game, just trying to figure out what exactly it is that he did and what it means moving forward

I guess we'll see ...

This kind of thinking really shits me, if there was nothing left to discuss then the conversation would die out. The fact that Priddis has had a bit of a role change (which many had been calling for in one way or another for quite a while) and seems to be playing well because of it adds an interesting element to the discussion. Just because you don't agree with what's being said doesn't mean the conversation should be shut down.

Priddis was VERY outside in this game. He racked up plenty of what could only be considered 'cheap stats'. Not a bad thing, just the truth.

Something i thought was actually impossible to be honest. But if the opposition choose to hack kick it to him and let him run around on his own on the HFF then who are we to argue?

It looks like the Eagles had a lot of good players.

He's a good footballer. One of the most obvious attributes you see in the best footballers is knowing where to run to get the football. It doesn't matter where he plays or what role, he will find the football more often than the majority of footballers, because he has just knows how to get his hands on the football.

Ummm no I suggest you watch the games. Its not a matter of knowing how to get you hands on the football in this case. Its being GIFTED the opportunity to play as a slow floating mid who trots around between the arcs with no accountability. Then what a surprise, at a stop in play, he's caught up to the next stoppage. Which he's allowed to go into, to again get more opportunities to get possessions and more often than not butcher them.
