Prediction The new crop

Although I am excited by the cameos that Weller has offered over the NAB, Langdon is the one that I have been impressed with at training. I also think in the couple of games last year he did well. He has maybe been set back a bit by the flu a few weeks ago, but I think he will be the one to become best 22 this year.

I think he dropped 4 kgs. Both he and Weller are my picks.

This is the one thing that kind of gets on my nerves. "We need height." No, we don't. We just have some crazy stubborn coaches who don't realise that playing someone purely for their physical stature is just about the stupidest thing we could do. If you have a strength (a glut of midfield runners) exploit it. The thing that makes it even stupider is the fact that Taberner does not take pack marks. He only takes marks on the lead or doubling back. Marks that aren't contested. His size, therefore is completely irrelevant

Agree with you to a degree but think back to Brian Lake's 2013 GF after we subbed Clarke out, we kept kicking it to him. It requires the midfielders to control the ball better and find guys on a lead but that's easier said than done, sometimes you have to hoof it in and hope a big fella takes a mark or crashes the pack.

Jack Hannath my cult hero pick, do nothing for the whole season due to suspension and injuries play in GF score the winning goal, or saving mark and get delisted or walk out to become pro masseur.

I see what you are saying and I agree, but the simple fact is that we don't have a guy who can reliably take contested marks. It would be worth a shot even if it was a 40-60 chance but at the moment any aerial contest seems to be a 20-80 prospect with our current crop of talls. If that is the case, then the obvious thing to do is look for other avenues to goal.

Grey will be my pick , not too flash but hard at it. Kicking need improvement.

Not that we want this obviously but an injury to a bloke like Spurr really opens the door for him.

I think that the next crop would be expected to get around 5-10 games if they are required but I don't see any giving the best 22 a shake. The most likely candidates would be A Pearce and Taberner. Would expect Weller and Langdon to chalk up some games as Crozier did last year. For any of them, it gives them a foothold to build from.

I'm still pinning all my hopes on Tabs, desperately hoping.

And we really need to give a couple of these younger pacy guys a good run in the big league. I'm not sure how well their development goes playing in the WAFL all the time.
Leeloo I can't be bother to stated my opinion anymore , would rather see peel thunder win flag than hoping freo do and Ross change . I still happy he strap on but freo might turn into soccer outfit arsenal every year top 4 or fa cup without winning league and champion league.

Would argue if Langdon/Weller/Blakely don't play more games we will have a disappointing year.

Harley Bennell alone isn't enough to push us further.

Mzungu, De Boer, Clancee Pearce, Danyle and even Mayne aren't good enough to push us further up the ladder.

The kicking hasn't improved...may, in fact, be worse.

In 2011 we drafted, Tommy Sheridan, Lachie Neale and Cam Sutcliffe.

In 2013 They played 10,12 and 19 games respectively and 2 of them played in the GF.
Are Weller, Blakely and Langdon worse than them?

I am pretty happy for us to give our best shot at a finals push with Pavlich in his last season. Quite comfortable with combining that with game time to any developing players who are hitting their benchmarks. It is a long season. No point pushing young colts who do not have the ability to sustain their role over 4 quarters or a season.

Yeah, I'm thinking our disposal is so shoddy and our inability to kick scores freely that maybe which bench marks are given emphasis needs to change.
Can't hit a target? Failed benchmark.
At least one of those new boys (Langdon) can run all day already...

Just as an aside the three undefeated teams were Collingwood, Melbourne and us.
Fremantle- points for 242, against 168, differential (1.44)
Melbourne- points for 274, against 219, differential (1.25)
Collingwood- points for 323, against 305, differential (1.05)

Anything there suggest a change in emphasis in our method?
Hawthorn built from their first round defeat and then started to kick high scores too...

Why do you say that meima has he had injuries before? I agree he's not ready for AFL but wasn't aware he was injury prone.
Sorry Dudley fragile for afl not for peel , you know we got duty of care to protected freo asset.;) once he build his upper body he is ready to go.

First half season , same line up as last year , slowly implement young player after that if they perform better senior player is not automatic in .

I'm one thinking our preseason was solid, but we did play 3 strong line ups compared to most.

Right now Suban, Barlow, D Pearce and Mayne are keeping out Langdon, Weller and Blakely. While it's likely they all play round 1, I expect Langdon will definitely work his way into the 22 by seasons end with Weller likely as well, just like the 2011 draft crop in 2013. Blakely a chance also and Tucker could even sneak a few games in.

Also while Ross will give first chance to our seasoned players as they deserve it after years of preseason, he won't be scared to drop them either when they underperform during the regular season. We have young players waiting in the wings.

Well that's what we hope...I've seen nothing to indicate that it's a sure thing
