Having read the Fitzroy post with the demise of the club which highlighted the massive changes in the AFL, i would like to know what views u guys have about the game in 7 years time ie. what state the game might be in.

On a serious note I hope that not too much changes & I especially hope that we don't lose anymore clubs.

In The Next Coming Years Mags Will Be Running The Afl Or Have Another Comp!

Seven years from now ...

I won't be going to the football any more because I won't be able to afford it.

The Pies will win the premiership in the same year that I let my membership lapse!!!

There will be two less teams in Melbourne.

The Grand Final will be played at Colonial Stadium ... and attendance will be by invitation only.

You will have to pay to watch football on T.V. You will also have to pay to go to training.

Cheer Squad banners will be mass produced ... Cheer Squads, as we know them, will not exist. Every club's banner will have essentially the same message: "Go Pies", "Go Bombers", whatever. The only thing different about them will be the colours and the sponsor's logo.

There will be no general admission at home and away matches. There will be all-reserved seating, which will cost about $50 or $60 a game.

Collingwood Social Club membership will cost $1,000 a year.

There will be no waiting list to join the M.C.C. because the M.C.G. will no longer be used as a footy venue. Matches in Melbourne will either be played at Colonial Stadium or John Elliott Oval.

Victoria Park will be a giant MacDonalds outlet.

Football clubs will no longer be named after cities or suburbs. Instead they'll be named after their major sponsors.

"Go Emirates. Go you mighty Magpies!!!"

All physical contact will be outlawed. Any player tackling an opponent will be reported. A free kick will be given and an automatic 150 metre penalty will apply.

In the interests of social equity, each team will be required, by law, to have AT LEAST 25% female players.

Any spectator who yells out when the applause light is NOT on will be evicted from the ground ... and will have their season ticket confiscated.

Josh Fraser will have just won his third Wayne Jackson Medal and his 7th consecutive Edward McGuire Trophy.

There will be 36 field umpires, one for each player. Umpires will be entitled to view video footage before making decisions. And the stupid bastards will STILL get it wrong!!!

Coaches will be permitted to call 4 "time-outs" per quarter.

The match will be played in 4 quarters of 10 minutes each PLUS time-on. For every 10 minutes of actual play there will be roughly another 20 minutes added on per quarter to make up for time-outs, injuries, stress breaks, commercial breaks, stoppages of play for the umpires to consult video replays etc. etc. etc.

Bulletin Boards such as this will have to pay a royalty of $250,000 per year to the A.F.L. for the right to talk about football.

There will be 12 interchange players on each side.

Spectators will be refused admission if they are inappropriately dressed. Only approved club merchandise may be worn. Hand-knitted scarves or beanies will not be permitted. And only the current merchandise is acceptable. For example, scarves bearing the name of a previous club sponsor will result in refusal of admission.

As I say, I won't be going to the football any more seven years from now.

Alf - that is scary - and it sounds like it is straight out of one the Geoffry Robertson Hypertheticals series.

Each and everyone of your points could be an eventuality. No matter how 'out there' they look when grouped all together. Oh God Help Football if that is the way we are headed!

I hope nothing much changes, but we gotta live in the real world here. The biggest change I would like to see (as would most of us, even though we never will) is GF tickets being available to CLUB MEMBERS ONLY. Mags, make this happen in your League and you get my vote!!!!!!!! Hehehe. Jacs
