Stuff the T'othersiders, games to start at 7.30 Wild West Time ( same as if played in Melbourne ).
Its not the punters, its the tv network

9:30pm start in the east means less ad revenue. Less ad revenue means not as much for media rights.

Also sponsors will pay less to clubs because they get less prime time exposure

Fwiw i hate friday night (and to a lesser degree sat night) footy, but its a payday for the league, and the bulk of the tv audience is in the east

Love how the lights are on the roof
Is Australia the only country in the world with light towers?
I can't think of any stadiums outside of Australia with them.

We're finally moving into the 21st century

English cricket grounds. Westpac Stadium in Wellington, and Eden Park to a degree. Eden Gardens in India - most floodlit cricket venues really. The cricket stadium in Dubai is probably one of the few with a ring of lights in the roof and no towers.
With the English grounds it'd be for the same reasons we have them here - they were built at existing venues with multiple different stands of different heights and ages, or at venues that don't have 360-degree stands to put the lights in the roof.

When lights were installed at the MCG and the 'Gabba they didn't have a complete circle of near-same roofline to install them in.
At AO the roofline was way too low pre-redevelopment. At the SCG there's too many spots which are too low or have heritage-listed buildings.
The current AO, and Metricon, Spotless, there's a massive gap where you wouldn't be able to put lights (and at Spotless they'd be quite low).

One could argue that we moved into the 21st century with this when they build Allianz Stadium and ANZ Stadium as they don't have light towers. AAMI Park has them but they're still built into the stadium.

Etihad also doesn't have light towers (funnily enough!!) :p

Sydney stadiums are terrible.
No argument there.Really no long-term thought into there stadia.
The SFS built along the SCG was supposed to be perfect for rectangular sports. Now it's "outdated".
The replacement (at a huge cost) is going to have the same capacity but will have a mode for NRL's small crowds.
Homebush is simply terrible for anything with about only 40,000 good viewing seats.
Why they don't demolish that and start again for the price I don't know.
They built up the showground next door. Should've given ANZ to football and built a new one for the rectangular codes.
The SCG is OK. it suffers from being built in stages with different designs.
The problem is that NSW cannot make a decision for Sydney. It keeps on making political decisions to appease various factions.

The SCG is the best ground in Australia to watch cricket at, especially sitting at the southern end looking back towards the members pavillion
Possibly. But it is pretty ugly. It's like they want the best of both worlds, having modern stands next to old historic ones. In the end it just looks like a mishmash.

Gil was just on the couch and indicated feb 10 there will be aflw or jlt pre-season game at the stadium - well ahead of the rugby double header.
Yes I noticed that with interest but I couldn't tell if he was taking the piss. Irrespective of that he clearly checked himself saying unless there is a deal reached soon with the government and WAFL there'll be no footy at all.
