Perth Stadium (Optus Stadium)

I believe there is still ACROD parking at the stadium?
Acrod parking is not for those being dropped off? It's for those driving themselves. I don't have an issue with limiting those wanting to drive themselves and park.
It's the rationale behind limiting people being dropped off.

I couldn't imagine that being more than a couple of thousand, and I would bet in a large proportion of cases, it's because the person being dropped off has issues.

I also bet the government considered this, but came down in favour of taxi drivers.

I think you overestimate the people of Perth. There are plenty of people here who haven’t been on public transport since they were at school. These are the people who would rather sit in their cars for 2 hours than travel in a train for 1 and a half. They are the people that the government have to get on the trains.

The planners have done a lot of modelling on this. I’m guessing hundreds of cars doing drop offs would present a congestion problem for buses.

There is no allowance for kiss and ride in the precinct. Not any that will allow a hundred or so cars to stack during the pregame rush. It's just not been allowed for, nor realistically could it have been. Perhaps a cap road along Vic Park Drive but that would only clog up in the rush and block the through-road.

There are precinct carparks with potential drop off areas but during events will be VIP only and will have security checks for access.

The best bet for drop off would be at Gloucester Park and take the new bridge or Belmont Races and take the footbridge there. Or the casino. None of those walks are really that long and people will get used to it.

To be fair I think that uber should be allowed to use the taxi rank for drop off. That is just giving in to lobby groups and wont last.

WACA board member Tom Percy confirmed on Facebook that if the Scorchers secure a home final it will be played at Perth Stadium. I'm expecting even the mid-week finals which start at like 4.40pm will sell out which will be an interesting test for Stadium operators and transperth.

I don't feel as if the government is entitled to allow taxis but not Uber. Hopefully there will be legal repercussions and if this is not possible, then legislative reform is required. Not allowing a drop off / pick up zone is just bloody minded extremism.

Also their attitude to cars in general is juvenile. Human beings are a complex thing and ability and disability is not a single binary switch. Many people might be capable of walking from a car to a stadium and their seat but not be capable of struggling through the public transport journeys both ways. This can be due to the exertion level and the time commitment. They should provide the drop off and pick up facility and let people decide. I have certainly taken a relative with heart failure to a game where the person was not legally disabled but could not have attended if the day involved anything more than gate-side drop off and pick up.

Surely for finals they'd play them at 5.40 at least? What's happened in the past?

From a traffic management perspective it makes sense (taxi's are very clearly marked), so it keeps the only major road free in case emergency services need access.

Pretty sure taxi's pay to use and have ranks (as part of their annual fees) but as far as I'm aware uber don't. Given uber are still in negotiation with the Government and the stadium this might change in the future and we'll see uber allowed through.

Also no issues with drop off being down near crown or the racetrack as long as there's some provision for the elderly and/or anyone with difficulty walking.

Considering the size and location of the stadium, I think people need to accept a change in behaviour. If the rules are fairly loose then there will be a sizeable number of people who will ignore them. Back in the day when there was a concert on at the Dome Victoria Park dve would be completely choked so can only imagine what it'd be like with a 60k stadium.

Got to love politics though, there's a good chance this was the Liberal parties plans as well but just as the Labor government are effectively taking credit for the stadium the Libs bash them for any decisions over it.

If the Scorchers don't host a home final this season you'd imagine the BBL08 season opener would be at the new Perth Stadium with the Sydney Derby at the Showgrounds the next night

I hope the taxis don't mind taking passengers from the stadium rank to the Casino drop off rank. You can get an Uber from there. Do the taxi terms of service allow them to refuse jobs and cherry pick only longer rides?

You would hope the scorchers can keep enough players on the park to keep their noses in front.

Taxis have always cherry picked rides.

If there is a final they need to allow for the girls game and the men's game will start at 7:40aest

Legally, no.

Reality, yep.

And they wonder why people choose Uber

Fortunately there isn't much room for drivers to protest at taxi ranks as opposed to when you hail taxi's off the street. Simply jump in, put your seat belt on then tell them your destination. If they protest refuse to leave, take a photo of their taxi ID and watch them change their tune.

Only good decision this government has made in regards to the stadium was banning Uber.
The 1960's called, they want their opinion back. Unsure how you can suggest banning Uber is a good idea?
1) It promotes competition and doesn't allow the joke of a Taxi industry to continue their Monopoly
2) The public should be able to get the stadium however they please.
3) Congestion concerns are silly, realistically what proportion of patrons will arrive at the doorstep of the stadium via Uber, many will use public transport and or frequent a pub or restaurant pre game.

To play devils advocate, is there really that many pubs and restaurants nearby? The casino would be further than most venues in Subiaco.

Secondly I don’t mind it if there’s a taxi rank that taxis pay for and an Uber rank that uber pay for. To me that makes sense. Im unaware of that but if that is the case I have no issue.

There should however be a location to drop family members off.

Also playing devil's advocate... what happens if the roads are blocked/congested with Uber/private drivers stopping/parking where they want stopping other traffic moving properly?

The stadium has designated drop odd areas that would have been used by uber for drop off's. Apparently all those drop off areas have now been designated as taxi ranks.
