Curiously, Hamish has now deleted both the original tweet and the subsequent apology tweet. To me that makes it seem more and more likely that it was based on inside info, rather than just being a delayed reaction to Polec nominating us.
Yep, thats my read on it as well.
Was told that the Polec trade is done, got tweet happy, only to be told to shhhh.

I reckon it will be either of these scenarios:

1) Gold Coast
Port swaps 14 for 20 + 27 with GC
Port trades 27 + 34 for Polec + 45 with Brisbane

So we get Polec and keep a top 20 pick, but our second pick is pushed out from 34 to 45.
Brisbane get 27 and upgrade of their 3rd round pick to a 2nd rounder, which Is better than 23 that the Cows could potentially offer.
GC get 2 picks inside the top 14

2) GWS
Port swaps 14 for 21 + 22 with GWS
Port trades 22 to Brisbane for Polec

So we get Polec and our first pick is 21 (only 1 pick later than scenario 1) plus our second pick stays at 34.
Brisbane gets 22 which, again, is better than the Cows'' pick 23.
GWS get 3 picks inside top 14.

Personally, I'd prefer scenario 2), especially since it is likely that 1 of Dunstan, Dumont and Battersby will be available according to Knightmare's phantom draft. It would also be quite satisfying taking the last promising SA kid only 2 spots ahead of the Cows hehe.

I really don't want us to trade our pick 14 for a few 2nd rounders- some really good talent in this draft, and there's no garuntees as to if polec will be better under our club, or if he's simply a dud through and through. If Brisbane don't want our 2nd round pick because they think its unders, let Adelaide have them I say

That's because North knew that they could get Jacobs in the draft, whereas we're not in that same position with Polec.
Did they? North did have to front load Jacobs' contract substantially to ensure he slid. I wonder if Collingwood were also as confident that Ball would slide to them at pick #30 in 2009. Now that the Crows have Betts and Podsi-Adelaide, I do question their ability to draft Polec in the ND, I'm not sure how much cap space Vince was taking or Jonhcock for that matter but we could surely work out a way to lock them out if need be. I wouldn't be keen to test that theory unless we had no choice.

Yeah I wouldn't expect many to agree with me. In 2 years Jacobs had played 26 games and averaged ~16 disposals and kicked a few goals to boot. In 3 years Polec has played 16 games averaging ~12 disposals and kicking a few more goals. The stunning stat though is the 1%'s. So yeah, different players and all but in their respective positions I feel Jacobs had shown more. He really went to shit at North though.

Well then Polec better get used to the idea of playing as a Crow next year, unfortunately (even if he refuses to be traded to them, which I don't think he would, I bet the Crows would still draft him). Unless St Kilda trade something decent for Longer and we trade 14 for Polec and whatever that pick is.
I don't think there's much risk of Polec ending up a Crow. A trade appears to be done so hopefully we find out sooner rather then later.

It would be interesting if he refused to be traded to them but they went on to draft him. Surely would not be in their favour. Again, not something I'd like to test out.

Ok, so we have...

Patrick Karnezis - Collingwood (pick #31? Pick #49?)
Elliot Yeo - West Coast (pick #28 pick #31 on-traded from Collingwood)
Sam Docherty - Carlton (pick #33)
Billy Longer - St. Kilda (pick #25? pick #19 on-traded from Hawthorn)
Jared Polec - Port Adelaide (pick #34 pick #27 on-traded from Gold Coast)

Am I in the ball park here?
I should have pointed out that this appears to be what's on the table for the respective players.

I think the deal is basically agreed (hence Hammer's premature postulation) but it was finalised after compo picks were known hence post closing time. There might be a few details getting hammered (hohoho) out over the weekend.
What do you reckon it has ended up as FF?

34 for Polec is an insulting offer which if Brisbane have any balls whatsoever they won't and shouldn't take. If we stick to that (which we won't) we'll have a Ben Jacobs situation on our hands, except there'll be a club who wants Polec and has picks that wouldn't be overs earlier than us in the draft.

Trading 14 for St Kilda's 18 and 24/5 or for GWS's 21 and 22 then on-trading the lower of those two picks to Brisbane is the way to go. Polec is easily worth that.
Best way to go imo.:thumbsu:

If I put my Brisbane hat on...

I'd only trade Yeo and Longer for a pick in the mid-teens and even then trying to keep them would be first priority.

Docherty I don't rate on what I've seen, get whatever you can for him. Pick 33 is on the low side but OK.

Karnezis seems like the kind of guy you're better off without. A small pick upgrade would be nice but more than happy to send him to the PSD.

Polec is gone, anything under #23 is a good result. Pick 34 is no deal.
Problem with Yeo is that he is out of contract, so unfortunately for the Lions this has meant West Coast don't want to cough up an even remotely adequate pick for him. IMO 24 for Yeo on talent is a steal for the Eagles, but they haven't budged yet.

I'd only be hazarding a guess. GWS is ideal but if they trade out 21 and 22 they have no room left for trading, although they probably get a third rounder from the crows for Edwards. St Kilda probably have the most room to move, might depend if they make a move on Longer. We could end up dealing direct with Brisbane in the end.

I'm not denying that Jacobs was statistically better than Polec. But in terms of talent and potential shown, Polec is miles ahead IMO. Obviously that's just my opinion based on intangibles, but I think most people who saw a lot of the two players would agree.

He really went to shit at North though.
No he didn't. He's the same player at North that he was here, we're just not watching him with rose-coloured glasses anymore.

Harry Thring thinks it's the Gold Coast deal.

link
PORT ADELAIDE
Former Richmond speedster Matt White wasted no time in signing with the Power, adding much-needed outside class to its midfield. That class could be bolstered by the signing of young Brisbane Lion Jared Polec, who on Wednesday nominated the Power as his club of choice. Port might have to give up pick No.14 at the NAB AFL Draft to Gold Coast, who would trade picks No.20 and No.27 back to the Power. In that scenario, they would then give the Lions pick No.20 for Polec and keep No.27. – Harry Thring
