I like this new 'players can't take possession on the ground rule' it appears to have improved the focus on skills

Although the new rule seemed to get rid of the big packs emerging I don't like it. It is a big part of Aussie Rules to have player like Brett Ratten and Adrian Fletcher rocketing the ball out from under 10 players with a handball while on thier knees. The new rule gets rid of a unique aspect of footy and they should get rid of it as soon as possible.

That's a myth what distinguishes those players is that they keep their feet.

The only thing it effects is crap midfielders that jump all over the ball because they can't get it themselves

It's good for those players that go for the footy like the players you mentioned

I agree Reggi. It was designed to increase the flow of the game. What makes Australian Rules Football such an exciting gmae is that it is so free flowing (for example no off-side rule). This new rule enhances it.

The thing that gets me, is that if this rule had been around for 100 years (instead of a few days), and there was talk of changing it, people would say : "No . You can't do that"

Nah, I dont really like it.
In and under players are at a disadvantaged, those who get their bodies in first.
It also doesnt support second and third efforts - Yea, those players who skirt on the outside of packs and dont want to get dirty it works well for, but those who do the hard work are severly disadvantaged. Most of the hardwork in afl is done on your knees - anybody can bend over and pick up a ball, but not everybody likes putting their bodies on the line and earning possessions.
I cant see them ever adopting it anyway.

This is the point - its the players who come on second who jump on the ball to lock it in

The rule advantages teams that play the footy and not the man

I think they will bring it in if only because it improves the spectacle for TV

No way - players who go the man are never down - its those in and under who want the ball that end up on the bottom of the packs. Those who put their bodies in.
Slowly,Slowly the game is turning into a big outdoor game of basketball.
Im just waiting for them to turn it into a non-contact sport.
