He's just not that good.

People loved him at GWS because most people barely saw the Giants play. And he stood out because he was a high draft pick and an outside player who got lots of easy touches.

He is shit scared of contact, never lays a tackle, constantly gets easy hands when he's just yelling from the outside. Now he's at a worse team and he's being shown up – less touches, less options, higher pressure.

Hugely overrated prissy little campaigner.
Are you competing with thebrowndog for the most wrong post in the thread?

Shiel is definitely not over-rated. He does butcher it sometimes but he’s a beast inside mid, he gets a game in any teams midfield as far as I’m concerned. If he sharpens his disposal he can be a top 5 mid
Agreed. I wonder which game people watched today. Yes, his disposal was messy (at moments) but he made a positive contribution to his side and has the tools to get even better.

If you know nothing about football you can post in some of the non football forums that might be more your forte.

You sir have no idea he's made a huge difference to our mid field we lacked this type of mid who is able to burst away from a stoppage/clearance

Half the league aren’t on big money like he is.

Shiel was also talked about as a massive reason why the Bombers would be a different team this year.

Think it’s fair to ask if he’s performing to expectations so far.
It would appear we got him to assist with the clearance work.
Heppell, Shiel and Merrett have given us a competitive coalface midfield to compliment the running game we have.

Would his KE help if it was better, absolutely. But he also gets the ball deep into our 50. Which means its not deep into our defence.
God help teams if he discovers it and starts lacing out forwards or kicking goals. Cos he's going to another level with the rest of his game.

5th best midfielder at GWS indeed.
He's some minor tweaks to his game away from being a brownlow contender.

Ranked 16th in the AFL for contested possessions per game, hasn't had less than 5 clearances in a game this year and is ranked 48th in the league for average tackles per game with 4.5 a game.

Also leads the AFL for average I50 per game and leads Essendon for metres gained, score involvements and disposals.

I'm sure you'll turn this into how I must fit some conjured up stereotype that you love to make, rather than admit your post was simply shit.

Why is there such strong hate for us that you continue to remind us about the cap cheating from 20 years ago, the tanking, the outside cap payments yet you have little old Essendon here who cheated the cap, injected their players with unknown drugs and is continuing to this day to make outside cap payments yet no one bothers to have a crack at them for any of it.
We’ve been smashed for the last five years about the drug saga and you’re having a little whinge? **** sake mate grow a pair.

Sounds like it's you who hasn't seen him play.

One of the worst stats in footy. Run and then bomb it long to the opposition and still have 80 metres gained, but from the poor kick they can make a clean break down to their end
Yeah I hate the metres gained stat myself, running 80 plus metres and then cough it up with a poor kick/turnover, that should count as a clanger (do they still record those stats ?)

Wait, are Mods allowed to not only lie but also speak shit?

I'm newish here but i thought Mods would have to set an example.

Please explain?
This whole discussion has turned into one big troll thread, I don't agree with Brown dog saying you are cheating the salary cap with this deal, but I do concur he cost you the game with his putrid kicking.

There a 2017 YouTube video of Shiel talking about his interest in property and life after footy.

This isn't some random 'get a coterie pres to offer a bullshit job for cash outside the cap' situation.

As for his kicking, yeah it was pretty bad yesterday. Has he always been like this? If so, not an elite player.

Teams smash you on the turnover these days. An accumulator who regularly turns the ball over is a liability.

I should know. North has two of them playing off half-back (Macmillan and McDonald).

Although at least ours don't really accumulate much, most of the time. Thank god.

His kicking was poor but he didn't "single handedly cost us the game". No player ever does.
