Yeah know problems Mr “If”. Deal in this universe. Not the alternative one in your mind. .stern look
Yeah. I always loved old Denis Pagans quote: "If your aunty was bald she'd be your uncle." Bloody brilliant.

It reminds me of the Ancient Greeks. They had the philosophers. The astronomers. The mathematicians.

And I've got this PowerBall syndicate going with 12 of my mates. Sometimes 17 comes out, and we have 18. And sometimes 3 comes out & we have 8. So close but yet so far. We've had some medium wins but we're really interested in landing the big one with a stack of play money to go with it. See, we play the PowerHit so it lets us breathe easy. It sometimes gets to the stage I hyperventilate & need to start breathing into a sleeping bag.

What I hope it isn't (and I think it has all the hallmarks of not being one) is a false dawn. We've had many of them over the last couple of years but this feels a bit different. Hawthorn are very beatable, and the Dogs would be another terrific test to see where we are based off the result earlier in the year

Well I’m bumping this thread because the way I see it the next 6 weeks are important.

The first 6 weeks have seen us put forward two 4 quarter performances and notch up 4 wins. It has taken the heat off the club, off Clarkson, off the lovely Sonja Hood and her Board. It has provided us with an exciting come from behind victory against Carlton. The most exciting game I’ve watched live this decade.

But let’s look at the truth that is staring us in the face. 3 of our wins have come against the bottom 3 teams of the comp as it currently stands. We have beaten teams around us and gee we lost to the equally as bad West Coast.

So the next 6 weeks are important. We need to take a scalp. Take a few. We need to take the next step. GWS has to be there for the taking. They have a fair injury list and we should get back Xerri and possibly FOS. Then we have Geelong at Baked Potato Stadium, Sydney at the Docklands, Adelaide in Adelaide, The Suns at Docklands and Freo in Bunbury.

How many of the next 6 will we win? :stern look

2-4 at the bare minimum.

1-5/0-6 means we’ve gone (relatively) nowhere.

We must take some scalps. I’m with you TPA. Go 0 and 6 or 1 and 5 and we are still going nowhere in a hurry. :stern look

GWS are just going.

Geelong are Geelong.

Sydney we haven’t beaten for an eternity.

We have never won at Adelaide oval since they started playing footy there again.

GC are trash in Melbourne.

Freo are beatable.

The two expansion club games are absolutely winnable.

I'd consider 2-4 a good outcome.

We'd then be 6-6 with the next 7 matchups being...
  • Eagles
  • Tigers
  • *
  • Port
  • Pies
  • Dees
  • Saints

We'd have a legitimate shot of winning any of those. If we go 5-2 then we're 11-8 with 4 to go.

Those four:

Hawthorn

Geelong
Sydney

And even if we lose all four of those games we're still a chance at wildcard/finals with only 11 wins.
If we win two of the next six we'll have more wins than we've had in a full season this decade ... after half the season (technically 12 of 23 games.)

I’m usually on the more positive side but realistically if we win 1 of the next 5 it’s a great outcome.

Giants in Canberra
Cats at KP
Swans at Marvel
Adel in Adel
Suns at Marvel.

Prob this week and Suns look most winnable but we start underdogs in all games and if we pinch a win we head into our bye week with a 5 win/ 6 loss record.

This sets us up for a run at the wildcard round with winnable games from round 14 to round 20. West Coast, Richmond, Essendon, Port, Pies, Dees, Saints - Doggies in rd 22 looking more attractive now as well.

Expecting us to be competitive and if we can pinch one of the next 5 it would be an excellent outcome.

We are currently unequivocally the best of the shit clubs, i.e.:

Essendon
Richmond
Port Adelaide
Carlton
West Coast (I'm aware we lost - but we're better than them)

If we assume the top rung are (in no order):

Brisbane
Gold Coast
Sydney
Hawthorn
Geelong
Fremantle
Adelaide
Western Bulldogs

And the middle rung is:

Melbourne
St Kilda
GWS
Collingwood

The question, which will be validated in the next couple of months, is where do we sit?

My view is that we are currently caught between the Shit rung and the Middle rung. Too good for one, not good enough for the other. Essentially the Jacob Konstanty of AFL Clubs.

The key is to have a healthy playing list and have our VFL boys stay healthy through this period and pushing for selection. No mad injuries pls.

I feel like our voodoo at the AO can be broken. We’ll have to play our best footy and they have to be a touch off but they’re certainly beatable.

Will it define where we are at as a football club?
Short answer absolutely.

The club needs to perform over the next 6 weeks. I would say 2 wins from the next 6 games would be a massive success and it would probably convince even the likes of me that the club could be on the road to redemption and even be staring down the barrel of finals in 2027.

However, lose to a personnel depleted GWS this week and alarm bells be ringing. If we roll up after the bye to Fremantle without a win over this period, and then walk into the west coast, it looks a tough ask. Yeo will be back for em too and he changes that side.

I can see us beating GWS but I really struggle seeing anything more than that.

Im not sure anyone can take much out of the wins we have had, these are the wins we thought we should take in 2025. The teams we have beat have a combined win column of 6?

This next six weeks is worrying and exciting at the same time. Yes, I eagerly look forward, one week at a time.

I don't want to be a fart in a crowded elevator but we aren't going to win any of our next six games unless we address the defensive pressure on rebound, the lack of connection between the back six and the midfield and the connection between the midfield and the forward line.

Richmond missing almost every set shot in the first half and having no bench in the second half wallpapered over the cracks, it was a very frustrating game. Daniels would have coughed up 5 goals alone in the first half against a half decent side. Larkey just refused to lead all game, kept calling for the ball to be dumped long and high and he checks notes had 1 mark inside 50 and 0 markes on a lead.

Watching the replay you can tell Clarko wasn't happy with how we were playing and tbh I wasn't either. Not all the sides we are coming up against are in great form so there is some hope.

There were some positives, Zurhaar down back looked pretty good. Some good individual performances.

Before Richmond ran out of gas we basically put zero pressure on them, there was no pressure on the rebound, and they were able to take uncontested mark after uncontested mark all the way into their forward 50 but just missed everything, it was one of the worst 10+ goal wins I had ever seen.

Darling was the only one in the forward 50 that went on leads but it was few and far between, leading is important even if they don't kick it to you it creates space and draws defenders away from where the ball ends up going.

if we rock up and play like we did against Richmond we are going to cop a 0-6 reality check and it is not even going to be close. Our midfield are complete cones when the ball is in our defensive 50, everyone is flat footed, it is why we piss fart with the ball in the back half, hold on to it for way too long then go for a dump kick up the line which is often turned over. Even the winless injury depleted Richmond moved the ball out of defensive 50 with much more system than we do.

We are relying on individual efforts, we aren't playing team oriented football. We are going to get murdered by teams that are team oriented unless something changes.
