The Next 6 Weeks

Yes the narrative pushed by some at the club was that not only they thought we were on the rise but this year’s draft pool ain’t much chop. But pick 2 is pick 2 and your chances of picking up another very good footballer is far higher than having Richmond’s future 2nd. Of all the idiotic trades that we have made this one takes the cake. :stern look
I was livid at the time we made that trade and still think it was epically stupid.

I’m hoping history shows us that Whitlock becomes a very good footballer and we can erase it from the memory banks.

Who knows it might have saved us from adding another midfielder. Need some silver lining to cope with giving up a premium pick.

Will it define where we are at as a football club?

Before the Swans game one would think that Carlton and possibly Essendon were gettable over the next few weeks. But now who can with any great confidence think that?

Come Round 10 we meet Richmond.

Worst case scenario come into the Richmond game 1 and 8 and get rolled by the Tigers. Then shit will be hitting the fan.

Conversely best case scenario we are 4 and 6 after 10 rounds and it could be argued we are heading in the right direction.

As I’m a Doom and Gloom kind of guy I think the worst case scenario is on the cards but I don’t want this to be the case.

Where will be at after Round 10? :stern look
So after Round 10 we sit in 2nd last. A spot familiar to us over the last several years. In that period of time we managed a win and a draw. We are 2 wins and a draw after Round 10. Have we improved from years previous? If we have it’s negligible. And we have 2 more experienced types from other clubs. :stern look

You can look at percentage. It is heading in the right direction. The last month has seen us improve a fair bit defensively. We haven’t conceded over 100 points for 4 games in a row. That’s better. :stern look

But still we are a sloppy side. LDU, Simpkin, Wardlaw. All prime movers through our midfield. All sloppy. But they aren’t on their Pat Malone. We need to get better with our disposal. Can this happen with our current list? :stern look

O.K. For the Next 6 Weeks. Where will we be at? Will we continue to defend as well as we have in the last month? Will we win any more games? :stern look

Had we lost to Richmond today the heat would’ve been on. Thankfully we won. But we need to be better. 5 plus years into a rebuild and we are at the same level with a team who has just started theirs. You all know who to blame for that. :stern look

Year is a failure unless we win at least eight games.

I’ll take seven + the draw at this point.

So that’s five wins after the bye.

You said that best case would be 4-6 after 10 and then you would think that we are heading in the right direction.

We're literally two individual plays off being 4-6. If Maley and Zurhaar converted their shots on goal we would be 4-6. Two kicks are the difference between "best case" and disappointment.

For the next 6 weeks (Pies, Bye, Eagles, Freo, Blues, Hawks) I think that 2 to 3 wins is possible.

Then 2 to 4 wins in the 8 games after that (Dogs, Dees, Swans, Cats, StK, GWS, Tiges, Crows)

We'll finish the year around 6 to 9 wins and be regretting some of the close games that we threw away earlier in the year.

I’m so annoyed about the Port & * losses. 2 goals and we’re siting 11th right now. Beat Brisbane and we’re possibly 8th.

Some of the overreactions here are insane.

Not talking anything major. Just two goals and we’re calling that trade a genius move!

Sorry Guys. Ifs and buts don’t cut it. We had close losses last year as well. Because alternatively I could say if Richmond had kicked a little straighter they could’ve won. They after all had one more scoring shot than us. We are where we are. This ain’t an Alternative Universe. :stern look

I long for the days where we don’t have to reach for ‘what if’s’ to justify why we’ve been so shitful.

If Richmond did kick straighter then they could have won. They can absolutely say that.

I don't know what's so hard about looking at the full context. Nobody is saying that we deserve to be on more wins. But we were undoubtedly very close to being on more wins and higher on the ladder.

That stupid ****en suspension ****ed us.

We'd have at least one more without that, maybe two.

As it is we don't tho and everything looks so much worse.

l think that after the horrid game yesterday we are getting closer to turning the corner. The Brisbane game showed what we can do and play like and if we can get a couple of spots filled by other players then we will improve over the course of the season. Some of the players we have bought in are improving , Maley, Hardeman for example, some borderline players have lifted, Stephens, Zurhaar, so if we can replace a couple of others, we all know who they are, with the likes of Curtis, Fisher, Ford and even Phillips plus with Archer coming back from injury then we are looking ok for the rest of the season.

Rubbish.
If this,, If that.. come on man.

Look at the ladder - that tells you where we are at.

Well the Next “Next 6 Weeks” has started poorly. Led Collingwood by 9 points at half time and the signs were promising. But after half time a depleted Collingwood changed gears and we simply couldn’t go with them. We conceded over 100 points by the end of the game. A step in the wrong direction. This was a poor performance. Anyway onto West Coast after the bye. This is a big game for the NMFC. :stern look

Why do you guys think anything will change. We will lose all 6 of the next 6 games. We don’t ever do anything different. The results will thus stay the same. We need the AFL to step in at year and take over the club. It’s an absolute necessity if we want to survive.

Our next six games are going to be pretty bleak I feel. In fact I can't recall the last time I felt confident re this team, they can't be trusted and it takes a toll. Last night still really rankles with me, but I know I've been to and seen worse losses. Just add it to the pile.

Greezy. I admire your optimism but you do have a tendency to excuse away our poor performances and current plight. :stern look
I don't think that I'm excusing anything away.

It's not about saying "if we did this we would have won" as an excuse. It's about assessing what stopped us from getting the result. Rather than just having a tantrum.

We pretty much matched our opponents head to head over 4.5 of the last 5 games. Why didn't we get enough wins?

Well, if Zurhaar and Maley converted chances then we'd have gotten 3 wins out of 5. But that's the randomness of close games.

If LDU, Larkey and a couple of others played up to their pay cheques then we might have gone 4-1. Those players need to go away and address that.

But I think that the biggest thing is that if we were better at defending the transition after a turnover then I think that we would have comfortable won 4 out of 5, and we'd be playing like a side that could push for the 8.

So, we can sulk for the next couple of weeks about winning 1 out of 5, or we can say that if they spend the bye working on addressing that issue then we might be a pretty decent side in the 2nd half of the year.

Either way, we used to be a side with 10+ big issues, including not much talent. There were too many issues to say "if only we did this". To me, that is improvement.
