The Next 6 Weeks

Why do you guys think anything will change. We will lose all 6 of the next 6 games. We don’t ever do anything different. The results will thus stay the same. We need the AFL to step in at year and take over the club. It’s an absolute necessity if we want to survive.

I don't think that I'm excusing anything away.

It's not about saying "if we did this we would have won" as an excuse. It's about assessing what stopped us from getting the result. Rather than just having a tantrum.

We pretty much matched our opponents head to head over 4.5 of the last 5 games. Why didn't we get enough wins?

Well, if Zurhaar and Maley converted chances then we'd have gotten 3 wins out of 5. But that's the randomness of close games.

If LDU, Larkey and a couple of others played up to their pay cheques then we might have gone 4-1. Those players need to go away and address that.

But I think that the biggest thing is that if we were better at defending the transition after a turnover then I think that we would have comfortable won 4 out of 5, and we'd be playing like a side that could push for the 8.

So, we can sulk for the next couple of weeks about winning 1 out of 5, or we can say that if they spend the bye working on addressing that issue then we might be a pretty decent side in the 2nd half of the year.

Either way, we used to be a side with 10+ big issues, including not much talent. There were too many issues to say "if only we did this". To me, that is improvement.
Like I said, I admire you optimism but you do have a tendency to excuse away our poor performances and current plight. Exhibit 69 is the above post. :stern look

Either you're trolling or you don't know what "excuse away" means.

It's not an excuse to point out areas that we need to improve.

Yeah know problems Mr “If”. Deal in this universe. Not the alternative one in your mind. .stern look

Another line in the sand should do the trick.
Big game coming up against West Coast but “If” LDU plays well, Zurhaar kicks straight, Sheezel has 40 touches, Daniel hits a target, Stephens doesn’t shit himself, Curtis doesn’t give away a stupid free kick then we should win. 😵‍💫

Just stats:

After round 11, last 4 years:-

2025
Average for: 79.4
Average against: 101.7

2024
Average for: 67.7
Average against: 119.1

2023
Average for: 67.4
Average against: 102.1

2022
Average for: 57.4
Average against: 107.1

In short, we’re a 5 goal better side than we were, which is obviously very encouraging leaving aside it has taken way too long.

But the thing that hasn’t changed is the mental game. Until we play with belief rather than a downtrodden mentality, we won’t materially improve our win/loss.

What is the answer to the mental stuff?

No. You’re an apologist who deals with “Ifs” and not the facts. That you can’t see it illustrates your stupidity. :stern look
You seem to struggle with the basic process of looking at past results, saying if I did this differently then I could have gotten a better result, and then trying to apply it going forward. Otherwise known as learning from experience.

So using this metric we’ve gone from downright all time disaster to utterly shitful.

Not a great leap I must say.

LOL. We have finished bottom 2 for the last 5 years. We are a chance to finish bottom 2 for a 6th straight year. Only “If” hey? We would be Premiers. Like I said. I admire your optimism but quite frankly you’re an apologist. Deal with the facts. Not the “What Ifs”. :stern look

Unfortunately, we’re actually that bad, sides are resting some of their better players, so the stats are becoming tainted, they’re just meaningless numbers at the end of the day. What’s the answer? For me, it’s finding enough players that just hate losing. We’ve got so many, that have now been in the losing system so long, they’re don’t hate losing enough.

When do you think the players will start learning & stop making the same mistakes?

So let’s revisit how we are traveling in this next 6 week block. Got beaten by a depleted Collingwood who outplayed us in the 2nd Half. Got over the line against and Eagles line up that quite frankly dominated us for large parts of the match without McGovern & Waterman. Just lost to the Dockers with a late run against them. We now sit in third last with a percentage of 80 odd. We are outside the bottom 2. Yay for us. But are we improving? Yes but it has been marginal. We are defending better as a team. It is keeping us in games. We are still reasonably strong at the contest and at stoppages. But our outside game still needs a lot of work. :stern look

3.5 wins thus far. Can we win more games? We play Carlton at the G. Hawthorn at Inceston and the Dogs on a Thursday Night at Docklands. You’d think Carlton is our best chance to chalk up another win in the next 3. But last time I checked the Blues thumped us on Good Friday. :stern look

In summary we have kept our head above water from out and out criticism by just getting over the line against Richmond and West Coast this season. Those 2 wins have wall papered over the cracks. :stern look

Well that “best chance” to chalk up a win in the next few weeks came to pass. The Mighty NMFC knocked over the Blues. 👊🏼💥

The first time the NMFC had won a game without scoring in the last quarter since Round 7 of 1958. 67 years ago. So close. :stern look

So are we “gelling” as old mate Ferballs predicted after the bye? Well we are certainly playing better. We are defending better. Clarkson has copped some criticism on here ye but yah have to handed it to him. The opposition ain’t getting a hold of us like they have over the last few years. Sure there are still issues and we sit in third last for a reason but has there been improvement? The answer is Yes. :stern look

Anyway the next 2 weeks will be interesting. Hawthorn and the Dogs both touched us up late last year. We can’t undo what we have achieved over the last 6 or so weeks. We must be competitive. We can’t concede stupid scores. C’mon North. Knock them dead. 👊🏼💥

Unfortunately, it might be a bit of the old Soul II Soul classic Back to life... back to reality.
I certainly hope it's not the case and we're right in it, but they might have a bit more class currently.
