Rehnny would be my walk up start if blood was let mid season next year. Lets just say that if Ayrseys is stumbling by mid season Big Shuan will be licking his lips.

Im not suggesting for one minute that Gazza will stumble.
Im not suggesting the AFC board would let bygones be bygones.

I just love the way Paul Roos looks at a club and often think Rehnnys got a few similarities with him.

Despite whether Westies can go all the way or not; just remember you heard it here first;) ;)

Isn't Rehn still suing AFC, AFL & SANFL, or that over? Can't really see AFC employing him if this case is still going.

Roos was an assistant coach before getting the senior gig. Reckon it is important that AFC pick coaches who have had a good grounding.

As discussed on the other thread, both Peter Jonas & Gary O'Donnell would be better choices at this stage.

If Ayres was to stumble in the middle of next season AFC, won't go out of the club in appointing care taker coach.

If this happens I think Craig will be appointed as a care taker coach.

As I said in the other thread I would appoint Rehny as a ruck coach, Craig for the midfield, Carey for Forwards, Jonas for defence, Jars fro skills and O'Donnell as a head coach. Just my opinion and I think all 6 are quality;)

Jonas - Senior Coach
Carey - forwards
Pittman - Ruck - hey if there are changes in the Power coaching box in the next 12 months, he'd be available. Bring him home.
Smart - defence

Rather have O'Donnell;)

Only 2 issues with O'Donnell

1. He hasnt been a senior coach before. He doesnt have a record. Jonas does.

2. He may receive stronger offers from Victorian clubs next year.

So what?????? Neither did Roos and I reckon he is a great coach;)

As previously stated, O'Donnell has played under Sheedy an dhas been an assistant coach to Leigh Matthews. Both of those coaches are as good as they come

I dont think Adelaide is the kind of job you could take on without having a proven record as a senior coach. It's a demanding environment over here and you have to be sure of yourself and your methods. I cant see AFC taking a risk with a guy who hasnt really shown his stuff.

Roos got the gig because he has been at Sydney for some time and was a fan favourite.

As for playing under Sheeds, well so did Shaw. :)

Whilst I reckon O'Donnell would make a good coach, I alos favour Jonas as he has a SA background (including with the Crows) & has been a senior coach (as well as an AFL assistant at several clubs).

The only existing coaches that would be worth getting to the AFC are Sheedy, Malthouse, Matthews and Pagan. And it's very unlikely any of these guys will become available in the near future.

As for Rehn, he's done pretty well this year. It's also worth noting he has a team stacked with AFL listed talent, although not too many of them have actually played much AFL this year so he's had a stable team which is always going to make a huge difference.

O'Donnell would perhaps be a risk but keep in mind he's been assistant coach at a club that has won the last 3 flags. He's surely learnt a thing or two about winning.

Good Points you raise MaccasNeighbour .
Why should success breed success though?

Of course he would have learnt a few things; but by no means did he stamp himself in the game....and that does count IMO...
although he is a defender

There are no guarantees as a new coach. But look at his credentials:

3 flags as second-in-charge-coach
flag as captain of essendon
long apprentiship with probably the best coach in the league

If you were going to appoint a new untried coach then you'd be stuggling to find anyone better.

I guess it's all about minimizing the risks. You can take a gamble and appoint someone like Brereton or Lyons, but they could end up being another Watson.
