We were all happy to believe Clarko would leave a great club and list - why? Money.

Why would Longmire be any different. Maybe he has his price and we will pay it.

It fits with ROK coming here as his assistant. He has Dew groomed as a succession plan. He's won 1, maybe 2 flags.

In many ways there's no difference in the current situations of the 2 coaches, yet we are only ready to accept 1 outcome.

Maybe Clarko has been the perfect smoke screen
I doubt it ... Longmire has the best list in the comp at Sydney, he lives in a non-AFL-mad town, gets paid plenty - why would he leave?

I'm seriously doubting that AFC can produce a massive fireworks coach ... it just doesn't seem likely. We need a new coaching team, and that is what I am looking forward to seeing fall into place.

The coaching group, the Free Agents, the trades, the delistings ... fun times ahead.

We can safely say that the next time we see the Crows play it will be a different team, with a different style, and a different energy ... that sounds good to me!

We had that last sentence with Sando.. Let's hope this will be a long term fix..

Bassett Coach. Ratten Senior Assistant. O'Keefe in as midfield coach.

Then I suspect we will add some surprises to our other positions.

That's where I see it heading anyway. As has been mentioned a few times, I suspect it is more about the overall package of coaches that will make Crows supporters happy.

Hell anything other than what we have had will make me happy.

If there is to be no coach with previous Afl success, this would probably be the best case scenario, so would be ok.

I still don't see that this would have people "excited", or becoming an "immediate top 4 side" or have everyone "more than happy" as has been touted from various angles.

Any combination of coaches that haven't previously had success will be a wait and see how they perform, but a fresh start is obviously a positive over what we had.

The thing that I can't get my head around is what Roo said this morning.

Why would he ask Jars to retract a statement because he didn't want the club to look like it talks to/poaches coaches in the week prior to a GF?

This would surely come out in due course when the club appointed anyone other than Clarkson next week.

I see it heading this way too. A Bassett/Dew (either) with a senior assistant and all new coaching panel.

I can see people being happy about it (Bassett returning home etc) but shooting into the top 4 (per C78)? Yeah, nah.

Though I can also see people running with "Boys club" and the Vic media continuing on with the angle that we shot Bambi for an Adelaide person blah blah blah

Although I think the rationalists here are being quite rational in their doubting and critiques and bunking of any idea that a senior coach from the grand final could be involved in coaching Adelaide next year, I still think there are a couple of points of intrigue that are not being satisfactory answered.

Firstly, why is everybody being so quiet in the Adelaide football club in relation to the pursuit of a new head coach? If you're chasing several people not involved in the grand final there's no reason to be secretive about it or to not mention a few of the names, and there's no reason why journalists would not be able to get a few acknowledgements out of those people who are being approached?

Secondly, we have to realise that a senior head coach is quite an experienced game player. They are no strangers to the need to say what needs to be said in order to get what needs to be done done. They have a different inner circle depending on the objective. When it comes to winning a game, that group is the coaching team and the captain of the club. Anyone outside of that circle may be game-played in pursuit of the objective, For example, needing to win a grand final this week, when a rumour comes up about leaving the club straight after the grand final, there's only one right comment in pursuit of the grand final. That comment will be made, and if you doubt that it will be made because of future ramifications, you don't understand what it is the totally focused on an objective.

I will be so disappointed in the AFC if this happens….unless it gets us a premiership and then I'll be happy with it.:D
its a pretty solid lineup in my opinion, I'm pretty confident Bassett will surprise in his first AFL head coaching gig.

if that was going to be the trio it'd be nice to have someone better than Ratten but if we were to go from Sando, Campo and no senior assistant to Bassett, O'Keefe and Ratten you'd have to be thick to think that's not a VERY significant improvement.

personally I still think there's something bigger waiting, but I'm just going to quell my excitement until the announcement.

ratten wont be as bad as people think, just because the clarko jarman drama everyone is sour today....

Chin Up time i think
Ratten does not ooze "top 4 next year" leaks. If it's Ratten I will smash heads of people telling me "fans will be excited" etc.

Sure he'll be an upgrade on Sando but does not live up to the hype peddled.

My mate still reckons whoever it is was lined up 2 weeks ago. Still no names though.

For the first time in yonks I'm actually willing the finals to finish just so this bullshit will all go away.

I'll support the clubs choice regardless of who they appoint because for the first time in ages I actually have faith that they've turned the corner and one way or another they'll be appointing based on merit.

That of course could all change if we run with a Bickley and Campo dream team but we shall wait and see.

The only feeling I have is similar to that of handing your unchecked lotto ticket to the lotteries console operator for a $30 million dollar megadraw and asking..... Did I win?
