Noone will be over the moon when the new coach is appointed. There is noone available to be excited about

But ill have to back the new coach in early. It will be all about results
Was anyone excited about Hinkley? I know he wasn't a favourite. I guess they didn't have the level of anticipation and rumours flying around that we've had.

its a pretty solid lineup in my opinion, I'm pretty confident Bassett will surprise in his first AFL head coaching gig.

if that was going to be the trio it'd be nice to have someone better than Ratten but if we were to go from Sando, Campo and no senior assistant to Bassett, O'Keefe and Ratten you'd have to be thick to think that's not a VERY significant improvement.

personally I still think there's something bigger waiting, but I'm just going to quell my excitement until the announcement.

I'm still on the Clarko bandwagon with Longmire as second.

As others have mentioned
No effort has been made to start the process.
Danger visited Clarko
.Jarman was told to shut up.
We have been told to wait till after GF.
It was said we wanted a premiership coach, then rephrased.
Rumours of people in the know.
Jarman had supposed figures.
Fagan stated we have the resources to get who we are after, so big money
Clarko had no choice but to deny it.

I may also be delusional!

I'd actually be really happy with this.
That scenario would be a huge let down to what we're expecting/hoping.

Too much love for Bassett on here by misguided Norwood fans. If people think Bassett is a revolutionary move then the revolution is rooted. It would be too much of the same. Another ex-crow for another job. To act as drastically as the AFC did in sacking Sando, and then to appoint Bassett, would undo all the momentum of change. In fact I hate the idea.

I reckon Basset is right in the mix.

His success coaching the Norwood seniors does not automatically assure him of success in the AFL. But the reality is that he's brought a heavily AFL-esque gameplan, level of professionalism and discipline to an SANFL football club that simply cannot and does not provide the same level of support or resources that is available to AFL coaches - and he has done so with great success.

That Norwood were able to beat Port Adelaide – a team that does enjoy the benefits of training with and under AFL level systems, structure and resources - twice in the finals series is a direct reflection of the culture and discipline instilled within the NFC by Nathan Basset.

The other thing that hasn't been acknowledged much is the huge number of AFL ready players Norwood are now pumping into the system since he became coach. I don’t have the stats, but I’d be surprised if the Legs didn’t have the highest number of players drafted to the big dance over the last 5 years of all of the SANFL clubs. Some of that is skill and ability, but a lot of it is these young kids learning a level of professionalism and discipline that a) ensures onfield success and that b) is immediately transferrable to a professional AFL club environment.

If Bassett has been able to achieve this with Norwood with the limited scope and resources that was at his disposal, I salivate at what he might be able to achieve with the Crows (particularly at a time when no stone will be left unturned to ensure the new coach has everything he needs to ensure some onfield success).

I hope the board and Fages see it the same way!

It is a good thing indeed that we have been able to keep our cards close to our chest on this one. I'm not on the Roovolution bandwagon, but I reckon this might be one thing he has implemented--no leaks or your head on a pike if we discover who it is.
As for Clarkson: no possibility after the statement he made. Has to be Longmire or an assistant from one of the two GF sides. Bass? Would have been announced by now as no reason to delay.

We got Hinkley because Leon Cameron pulled out at the last minute so any excitement was tempered by the disappointment of losing Cameron.
I don't think you'd find one Port supporter who still wishes we got Leon.

I don't think it's fair to label us Norwood fans as misguided. The facts are there for all to see, Nathan Bassett can coach. He completely turned around the Norwood FC. This wasn't a tweak, it was a revolution. The only question mark (and I share it) is whether he can go up another level from the SANFL to the AFL.

Great post and stole my thunder.

I'm no Norwood fanboi - but credit where it's due he has the 2 indicators covered;

1. Wins flags
2. Makes players better

I agree it will be a let down, but you have to respect Bassetts achievements.

And Ratten? Well in 2011 lost a semi to WCE in Perth by 3 points which fuelled massive expectation for 2012.

They were 5-2 sitting 4 th when we rolled into town and wacked them as well as Patty removing Murphy for the season.

A few other injuries and they never recovered - bang end of Ratten.

Bit stiff

I cannot see it being Basset. It is not consistent with the messages coming from AFC in the last two weeks. "Powerhouse club with no shortage of money", does not say "We are looking at a head coach with success in the lower grades, and who ticks a few KPI boxes that suggests he might be able to pull it off like Hinckley did".

And, by the same thinking, no to Dew, Bolton.....

Could be wrong. I didn't think there were as many rumours going around.

The level of anticipation for you and other real fans was probably the same but Ports 'supporter' base was much smaller than that it is now.

I don't think you'd find one Port supporter who still wishes we got Leon.
No kidding. I'd love to have Hinkley on our side. Point is that at the time you guys were disappointed but it worked out better than you could have hoped - same could happen to us.

Not trolling boys just sharing some info I came across from a source
head coach - basset

Senior asst - mark harvey
Director of coaching - brett ratten
What do u think of that team
I rate Bassett. That's not a bad lineup given what's available. But as I have been saying all along, lets just wait and see, proof of pudding will only ever be in the eating.

Bass / Dew / Ratten / O'Keefe / Milburn - thoughts?

You are delusional!
People compare Clarko coming to Adelaide with Lyon leaving St Kilda..
Wrong! Lyon has no intention of ever going back to St Kilda...
Do you really think there is enough money in the world for Clarko to burn a club he is a living legend at?
He built that club from nothing... He will have future Premiership reunions etc
He would not risk his name at that club to coach anyone...
If he ever left he will do it the right way by the Hawthorn football club

You wont get Bass and Dew...
Its one or the other...
Why would Dew want to come to Adelaide and be Bassett's assistant?

Fair call. Perhaps not 'misguided' but certainly biased. It's not a revolutionary move to give Bassett the job, and Crows need a revolution.
