That scenario would be a huge let down to what we're expecting/hoping.
Too much love for Bassett on here by misguided Norwood fans. If people think Bassett is a revolutionary move then the revolution is rooted. It would be too much of the same. Another ex-crow for another job. To act as drastically as the AFC did in sacking Sando, and then to appoint Bassett, would undo all the momentum of change. In fact I hate the idea.
I really didn't want Goodwin. Bassett is the only ex Crow I'd be happy with.
He has run a club and proven he can do all the things required (set a vision & game plan, work with fitness staff, medical staff, players, management, supporters etc). He's also shown he can make tough decisions (delist players), he has shown an ability to get the best out of players (development) and had complete buy in across the board.
Malthouse said the other night, promoting an assistant coach comes with big risk because they haven't shown any ability to sit in the chair as the head of the club. Bassett has done this even though it was at one level below afl. Since then he has had a year in the afl system to keep up to date with the current game plans/trends. Plus he's worked with Bomber, Craigy and Goodwin in that time.
Clarkson was in the same boat as Bassett except he did one more year as an assistant. His job was harder than the Crows job as Hawks were right near the bottom of the ladder.
