That's the whole point I'm making. This is the prevailing view. But to dismiss Bolton as an option straight out is quite narrow minded. Especially based on "he sounds like he's 12", ffs we are better thsn that aren't we......... oh.

Let's judge him on his ability. Do I think he's a good fit for us? Perhaps not due to the juncture we are at with our club. But to dismiss him outright because he hasn't played is farcical. He is knowledgeable about the game and all reports from Hawthorn are he is capable as anyone.
Are you for real? Do you seriously want the face of our club someone who comes across as a giddy kid in a lolly shop? On one hand we'd have elder statesman Ken and on the other his grandson coaching. Give me a break

Jackson was inexperienced too, so the Warriors went from rookie coach to rookie coach. Jackson's problems were more Sando like too, poor communication and personality clashes with management and the owners.

Thibs is different, he had nearly 30 years experience as an assistant coach and had been in the NBA as an assistant since 1989.
Even still though with Tibs he was never a head coach at another team. Very successful at the moment.
Erik Spoelstra an assistant coach with the heat and took over in 08 very successful with them
Jeff Hornacek was an assistant with Utah and took over as Suns coach last year. Everyone thought the suns would be last and they just missed playoffs by a game

Didn't a player say "Sando would have led us to a top 8 finish next year, the target would take us into the top 4"?

That's not Bolton or Woosha. They might be capable but the appointment does not say "top 4".

Bolton is the anti-Sanders. His positivity is sickening. And I'm a positive person!

Woosha is past it. I don't want a coach that said this when they resigned:

"I have come to that decision I shouldn’t do the job if I don’t have the energy to give it absolutely everything; that wouldn’t be the right thing for the club"

"I have been convincing myself that at the end of the season there’s less intensity, you’ll rekindle all the energy, you’ll have a break and you’ll be up and going again, but I just think it’s time now."

"There are plenty of people out there who are ready for this opportunity. This club will give them a wonderful opportunity."

That's what Rowie said a player said to him. Dunno if it's actually true or if he's just spouting hyperbole.

Sumich has been overlooked for years... it will be interesting to see how he puts himself forward.
I was told from a WAFL player who knows Sumich that he was as dumb as bat shit and only got a coaching gig because he was Woosha's mate. I don't really know, can't take all of these things seriously, he must be okay I suppose if he's still around as an assistant but maybe his desire exceeds his capacity.

You don't think image is important? C'mon get off your high horse and acknowledge having someone who presents well is important, of course they need to be able to coach as well, but they can't sound like a kid.
Sando presented really well in the interview, said all the right things.

1st priority is coaching ability.

If we worry about presentation 1st we go straight past Hinkley like all the clubs who passed on him.

A presser or two during unusual circumstances is hardly a damning of his ability to communicate or lead players.

Sheedy was mad as a cut snake and said wierd arse things during some pressers. But he could coach.

Sometimes we put so much importance on secondary considerations we walk straight past what we need.

And then i've heard that Sumich was all the steak behind Woosha sizzle during their time at West Coast. Never know who to listen to with these things.

This backs up exactly what I've been told as well, but there must be something there to work with if Lyon wanted him at Freo.

How many times does worsfold have to say "i'm not interested coaching anymore" before we rule him out.

I think its one of two scenarios:

1) The person is either a Sydney or a Hawthorn coach (senior or assistant) and out of respect for him we are waiting until after this weekend.

2) We didn't have anyone in mind when we sacked Sanderson and we are flying by the seat of our pants. With fa/trade week just around the corner - hmmmm.

Scenario one is the DEFINITE. I said it in the other thread on the day that Sando was sacked and I'll say it again...our new coach is from those remaining in the finals.

Everyone will be shocked. Crows supporters WILL be happy and also VERY proud that their so called "basket case" club has pulled off the coup of the century.

I'd want an amazing team around Bassett.

What's the recent success rate of former players coaching their old clubs?

Games (W L D)

Voss = 109 (43-65-1)
Ratten = 120 (60–59–1)
Roos = 202 (116–84–2) 1 flag
Worsfold = 281 (149–130–2) 1 flag

-- Jury out on these current converts --

Hird = 66 (36-29-1)
Leppitsch = too soon
Buckley = 70 (42–28–0)

Am I missing anyone?

I reckon I could just about pass judgement on Hird.

Nothing wrong with Bolton, I think he may have overdone it with the post match press conference with some nerves. Clearly wasn't used to the media.

When interviewed during game on Sat it was a lot less like an Auskick interview. He seemed to know his stuff, and was very responsive to the questions asked.

I actually did see Roo in a cafe last week.

He was by himself though.
I did see Roo at a local park recently.

Was with his kids and wife. We were at a kids birthday and the kids at our party joined in with his kids in an impromptu football match. None of the kids knew who he was. Class act. Learned all the kids names and made sure everyone had a touch of the footy.
*True story. Ps his oldest boy has a good hoof on him. Connects well with the football.

.
So we are accepting mediocrity again?

At least Sando was very confident when addressing the media.
