Agreed. I think its Dew as Head Coach and ROK as Assistant. It can be the only reason to why there was a delay.

I would prefer Bassett, but I dont think it is.
I really want Bassett but as someone else said he probably needs another 2 years at least as an assistant. However, I feel he has the personality, uniqueness and temperament to be a successful, long term afl coach. If its any of the other current assistants being mentioned, especially Dew/Bolton/Sumich, I don't believe their tenure with us will last longer 3 years. We cant keep changing coaches every couple of years so we have to throw caution to the wind and punt on Bassett. If he tells us he's confident then give him a crack but make sure we put quality people around him.

This coaching appointment is probably one of the most important in our 120+ year history.

Shit mate, I will be f*** off if its someone outside of Dew and Bassett. I agree that all assistants selected as a head coach are unknown variable, but at least IMO Dew and Bassett have the instant respect value, it will take for someone outside these two to gain respect at the AFC.

Importantly, I really hope we have a soft start to 2015 so the coach can learn without being smashed on the scoreboard.

Playing 3 bottom 8 teams would be a nice start compared to 3 top 8 teams in 2014.

Other than Blight, I agree. It is important to get someone who is going to galvanise the playing group, inspire their want to play as a team, and one that will instil a sense of 'us' where there is no thought of wanting to leave. This is about on field success...with that comes lots of pressure...it will all be about the wins. Replacing a sacked coach, having 3 big names coming out of contract and the expectation of almost 60,000 members...yep this is a huge appointment.

Knowing our luck lately, chances are that we'll overlook Bassett and then he'll get his chance at another club and turn into an elite coach.

Turning your back on a Crows legend (maybe legend may be a bit overused) and a guy that was very very well respected by the Club, had success at SANFL and has served time as an assistant.

I think he could get us into the 8, especially if we recruit well in the next month.

You people need to relax.

Good idea Slippery Pete. We have nothing to worry about. We got this. Just think of this until the announcement......

Sort of ironic for years we have been whingeing about jobs for the boys but now we are desperate for one of the boys to get the coaching gig. In saying that, the hound is so far from being one of the boys club.

So this is the one thing I dont understand, Bassett deserves and commands respect for his coaching prowess at Norwood, coupled with time spent as an assistant coach and yes for me, I think he should get it. But it will go to Dew.

Its the reason why the Crows have waited this long.

So no truth to the bit Jarman said about 'Hawks win Clarko comes, lose he doesn't'?
I know he said no on TFS on Thursday, but I dunno if anyone noticed, he seemed fairly reserved singing the sing today......got me wondering...

"By the end of the week " - these guys do realise trade week starts Friday.

If its not someone who was a senior or assistant in todays game, then what's the hold up. If its not someone from todays game, the appointment should have been made public last week.

I think the announcement will be the whole coaching panel.
There is no reason why the new coach can't commence work on the list in preparation for trade week prior to any "official" announcement by the club if the announcement is later rather than earlier next week.

If the announcement is to indeed be next week the club would be finalising the head coach this weekend and Monday at the latest, that just leaves the official announcement.

No truth. Stop wondering. For your own sake.

We need to be excited at actual prospects, not disappointed in fairytales that don't hold true.
