As for the coach, forget the non-gettables, to be honest walsh would have been my second prefernce behind Bassett. I just hope we don't lose bassetts football IQ to another club.

well from what your saying it doesn't sound like he's too interested in head coaching gigs anyway, so we are probably looking at him for a DOC role. He is on record as saying he wouldn't work at any other Adelaide club though. $ tend to change peoples mind tho.

My guess is walsh DOC dew head coach with ROK in tow.

He was on record saying he wouldn't go elsewhere well before he's apparently been interviewed and presented so I would take that with a grain of salt. DOC sounds like something we put to hum last year and the year before

Someone then reminded him that he said on air "I will buy a Crows membership if Walsh ends up at Adelaide" and then pretends to claim the scoop on Walsh going to Adelaide.

that's kinda my point. he went out of his way to say he doesn't want to work for any other Adelaide club (obviously us) when he wasn't even asked about it. not even prompted.

he hasn't gone out of his way to say he doesn't want to coach any other team as far as I know...just us. and that was only 8 months ago.

what are we waiting for??? lets sign him!

According to port fans, we can't get our own ideas by stealing one of their assistants. They appointed a Gold Coast assistant. Pointing that out resulted in one poster saying all our supporters are loathsome. A tame reply (asking said poster if one million Crows supporters were all loathsome and to look in the mirror)to that was met with an infraction.

I have spent the last twelve months trying to encourage reasonable discourse between both sets of fans and have been rubbished on this board on occasion for being Pro Port adelaide.

I am having little success. Now I feel like I,have been told off by a cynical old teacher who knows the student is smarter than him. Given I don't want any more detentions I will give up my crusade and leave their board well alone.

It's interesting you have no right of reply against infractions. I think we should ban the Burqa as well.

I know probably no one cares, but, I needed to get that off my chest.

I think posts are all too quickly deleted and supporters of both sides on these boards way too easily offended and precious. It's fun to have a bit of banter on these boards, as long as it isn't abuse, defamation or profanity I think it is all "above board". Bring it on!

Why stop at banning the Burqa? Mandatory less clothing on all women should be made law. as long as they are hot.

Things change. If someone had told Dale Thomas after the 2010 Premiership he would be playing for Carlton 3 years later I am sure he would have belted them for the sheer stupidity of the suggestion.

Of course theres a chance he will still come here. but there is a difference between being asked your opinion and answering (such as your Dale Thomas example) and volunteering your opinion when no one was asking. You'd have to think someone who offers their opinion voluntarily is probably more married to that opinion.

he hasn't needed to, he's been universally considered within the AFL as one of the best assistant and strategic game day coaches for more than 10 years. Bassett did a good job at Norwood but he is still an eccentric character, whom if you ever hear Roo talk about him, has some polarizing traits that is a work in progress. Too much is made of turning around a SANFL powerhouse club.

Bassett's results in the SANFL are super impressive.
It's his resume, while others can put up fancy power point presentations and talk about how they're going to turn around a struggling club and move them forward blah,blah,blah Bassett can actually claim he did it. He did it in the most emphatic manner for his team played team defence and they played a style of football that made each and every player accountable. Something our team badly needs.

Listening to the players who actually played under him they have nothing but praise for Bassett. An eccentric character might just be what we need after two measured coaches who never put the fear into anyone when it was needed. All this talk about' "the processes, we'll go back and work hard on the track, no one is more passionate than me." Hell that lame talk reflected the culture of our old CEO.There's plenty who can talk the talk but always fall short.

The great coaches Malthouse, Blight, Clarkson and even Hickley have this underlying threatening tone about them. They can explode at a moments notice and it's accepted because they're respected and they know their stuff.
Bassett has certain traits they possess and we know he can deliver because of what he did in the SANFL;it worked, it's not an apparition.

Bassett didn't get the new coaching job and I can accept that but to idly dismiss his achievements by stating blandly "Too much is made of turning around a SANFL powerhouse club." It's so disingenuous, he did more than a good job at Norwood,he did a great job.

This board can be very disparaging of anything SANFL but believe me it is the closet step down to the AFL in Australia that there is.
It's football; clubs have the same problems, team structures function the same way, player unrest simmers the same way and it's a result driven competition with the same pressures as anywhere else.

The coaching panel are still trolling their way through the candidates and it appears to be at this stage between Dew, Bolton and Walsh.
Of that lot I have a preference for Walsh because he has survived and thrived in the system for a very long period, is talked about in glowingly terms and he is still in great demand. Bolton and Dew don't appeal to me as much.

I have to hitch my wagon to someone now Bassett's gone. The panel are at least doing an exhaustive hunt and I'm hoping they get it right for our teams sake.

Walsh maybe....Left field, maybe Bass hasn't been asked to present a 2nd time because the 1st was good enough?
Rucci in the rag this morning reckons Bass didn't get the job because he won his premierships at Norwood with a defensive game and the Crows have to appoint a coach that will have an entertaining game style so that the 19th man can be appeased.

2 things come from that.
Yes might be a rabble and it certainly comes across like that in Melbourne as I reported before. We are not considered in favourable terms by anyone who's anyone there. That was evident by the comments from certain players that were in the Toyota box at the GF.
But we now have I believe people in place or nearly in place to fix that.

But the other comment about clubs being run by the fans is a no no iMHO. My brother who has a long standing association with West Adelaide FC remembers and it still goes on with different cliques trying to get their person in top jobs. It doesn't work. You must have the right people in the right positions and that must not be allowed to be a popular voting system.

Yeah, he said something that I didn't catch about Gray mentioning Walsh in his acceptance speech and said that Rucci could write about it on Monday because that's how his form was.
