Perhaps ... there is difference taking marks when the otehr players are trying to take marks ... forwards take marks when def just to destroy and negate.

I agree he looks better than I thought he would be... I cant remember the marking as being a part of his package. Adding the marking makes him right into they type of player Kenny Hinkley was etc..
If he's even half as good as Hinkley was as a half back we've found a gem.

Hinkley the failed forward turned into one of the best HBF I have seen. We have been lucky over the years. I agree if he can match Kenny ..and there is no perfect comparison ... and to be honest something tells me this kid has a harder edge than Ken.

Kenny was one of the most courageous players I've seen. An absolute superstar down back.

I loved Kenny. He resonated footy to me that was more about the skill..a delight to watch.. and would have /should have won a Brownlow apart from a thuggish incident.

But I cant remember him ever bringing the type of physicality of a Rooke etc..just not his go. Play to your strengths. and he did..and occasionally a goal was kicked against him but so what ..he created more than a counter to those.

Yeah, and McCarthy is 177 also. I think Tarca will put on weight, his body shape normally does. I'd expect him to get to 82kgs.

He kicks 4 in the SANFL U18 GF here.

Height has been less important in recent years.. its not like its a pure 1o1 game . If he can develop his fall of ball skills it will be less important

Well Kolo has just re-signed until the end of 2021 and despite screaming out for tall forwards they'll play Schlensog in the backline all year.

Cocka , is that so? ..I think he is that raw that they they may have to find somewhere the learning will be the easiest. It would not surprise me see he played in a few roles

Is that seen as the requisite, infallible strategy for developing forwards these days?

Honestly Im not sure what we do to develop forwards these days. I have seen bits an pieces of people like Dermie training the GWS guys.. do we really have a specialised forward coach. I mean Boris could help with some things but develop a KPF? Id be happier if having Brownless or someone who played the role giving him some input.
I think the best way we can develop some tall forward is to recruit better talent that starts from a better level.

And Scott wonders why he doesn't have many allies.
Without knowing why they are taking this approach it’s hard to make a call on it. Do they think he has qualities that would make him a good defender? Or is it to help him be a better forward? Or is it a list management decision cause they see a hole in the future list?

It’s not uncommon.

It’s not uncommon.

No, not uncommon, but is there concrete proof it works the majority of the time?

Yes, that was interesting. I presume they'll have a mix of Buzza, Kreuger and spare rucks up forward in the VFL and were just looking for the simplest role they could develop Schlensog in for now.

Schlensog is a Category B rookie. He has a long road ahead, and a backline role is perfect for teaching discipline.
It doesn't necessarily mean he will end up a backman.

Exactly.
My first look at him (two weeks back) puts him much further back than say Okunbor. BUT he has the size and there must be one or two other things the club have seen that convinced them to take a punt.

IMO Where he plays doesn't matter much - he just needs experience on the park ( v men) to find out if he is a quick enough learner.

I don't imagine he does wonder about that at all.

Surely not even his most strident critics here would believe that he is overly concerned about what others think.

I fact I believe they would say just the opposite. And see that reality in itself as yet another stick with which to beat him.

Operation Future begins Friday.
Clark almost a certainty.
Atkins likely.
Constable, Miers?
Not to mention SavRat, O'Connor, Zuthrie, Parfitt, Henry either in, or in the mix.
