Prediction The Next Batch operation Future

Operation Future begins Friday.
Clark almost a certainty.
Atkins likely.
Constable, Miers?
Not to mention SavRat, O'Connor, Zuthrie, Parfitt, Henry either in, or in the mix.

I think it's three debutants this weekend, in Clark, Atkins and Constable. With both Dahl and Rohan making their AFL debut with the hoops as well.

Three is a significant number of first-timers to start the season. And I can then see Miers definitely getting his chance throughout the year. And perhaps Oscar, if he pours on some pressure by consistently performing in the twos.

Apart from that, and my personal hope that Krueger smashes it and demands elevation, I can't see any other players chalking up a senior debut in 2019. So, 4-6 seems the most likely number of GFC debutants this year. Down on previous years, but I'm OK with that.

Because if we record a tally of 8 or so again in '19, it probably suggests our season is in quite a deal of trouble.

I think we could add Fort to that tally as well without things being inherently disastrous. There are definitely a fair few kids I'm not expecting to see debut, though.

I don't imagine he does wonder about that at all.

Surely not even his most strident critics here would believe that he is overly concerned about what others think.

I fact I believe they would say just the opposite. And see that reality in itself as yet another stick with which to beat him.
You can believe what you'd like to believe but he's already alluded to his critics in the media so he's well aware.

Don't disagree. But, on exposed form (limited exposure for some, I know), I would still have Abbott in front of him, at the very least. And the prospect of Smith pushing up again if he gets his act together.

It was only a couple of JLT games, admittedly. But Fort now appears to me to be far from a walk-up start as the second choice/relief ruck if Rhys is not performing/available.

CS has dropped the odd comment about people who critisie etc ... ignorant and simplistic etc..

I find that the way he talks is so filtered that for even the slight hint of that to come out in the media ..behind the scenes he must churn with venom about his methods being questioned by the plebs and unwashed.
Its funny .. I wonder if there is something in the whole in power for an extended period that after a while they get frayed by the overseers .. ? Thompson never really got over the 2006 internal ..even after the success he still held grudges

Is anyone ever, truly 100% immune to criticism, especially if it is on-going?

That's fair, I think even the club were a bit surprised by how far from it Fort looked in the JLT. Hopefully he works his way into the season and those early practices are the exception not the rule. Still a world apart from Jarvis/Kennerley/Okunbor/Schlensog/Tarca.

Honestly Im not sure what we do to develop forwards these days. I have seen bits an pieces of people like Dermie training the GWS guys.. do we really have a specialised forward coach. I mean Boris could help with some things but develop a KPF? Id be happier if having Brownless or someone who played the role giving him some input.
I think the best way we can develop some tall forward is to recruit better talent that starts from a better level.

Ridiculous comment. Like saying I wish Scott Cummings taught out forwards how to play. Clearly these guys were good players but not a coaches arse.
Leave it the professionals. Don’t think you’ll find a better football brain in C.Enright.

How many games did he play a KPF...

I could say you comment is riddiclous too... but I wont.. I agree Enright is a quality football brain but thats doesnt mean he knows all there is to know. Id like some input from a coach who played the role..not a guys who play HBF

No but I do see turbos point. Corey enright isn't exactly a tall forward players generally have intimate knowledge of certain positions. Enright is more a line coach generally working within the gameplan and I'm sure he works tirelessly with skills etc. But he was a star half back.

In all codes you get specialists brought in ruck coaches, forwards coaches. Just to fine tune a few of the edges. Like if you brought in a guy like nick riewoldt or a pavlich to do a few sessions with esava and even Hawkins I'm sure they would get plenty out of the mentality, leading patterns, body positioning just having a decade of experience in that position in the AFL they know all the tricks

Like for like ..maybe more Pavlich than Riewoldt... but Im not sure they even have to be the best of the best ..who Pavlich was.. If he played for Geelong we may have won 4 in a row.
Succesfull players who a less talented usually have something to offer. ow Save is such an athlete he might not play like Cam Mooney but I bet he would have something to offer.

Can money was the guy that sprung to my mind as well. Sometimes the less a talented guys make better coaches simply because they have to work so hard for everything that comes there way. I think that's true of cam Mooney

Everything I have seen regarding Esava's development as a forward says that Enright & co are doing perfectly alright.

He has been going along fine max. Although that area of the ground does not have a lot of depth. Savs played 8 games I'm not sure what's behind Hawkins buzza.

I don't really have a problem with the way Tom goes about it. But he's been doing it for quite a while, and he has had a few coaches teaching him his craft.
Buzza has the physical attributes, but we might just have to accept he isn't going to make it. He wouldn't be the first "promising" tall forward who hasn't delivered.

Hawks a superstar nearing 31 though you just hope the body holds up and the wheels keep turning. Nobody escapes father time even with the superstars going alright then wall or injuries happens to everyone. Not much in between I think he played some of his career best football in 2018.

But in terms of going deep into finals and getting top 8 position. You need the depth throughout the year in an ideal world we would have a setup like 2011 where you could rest veterans on the regular. I don't think we have the luxury at the moment if you want to play finals Hawkins, Selwood, Taylor, Henderson, 2e will need to play a large chunk of footy.

You got a sneak peak in JLT1 vs west coast what that might look like. So that's geelong in 2019 this year more than most keep these guys on the park. You can achieve some good results but the depth probably isn't there so again a heavy reliance on the top end and kids improving.

Was just looking at who we ended up getting for McCarthy. Turns out it’s a mix of Krueger and someone called Kennerley that I didn’t even know anything about. Does anyone know if he has been sighted in preseason? I’ve heard nothing.

Hes played the vfl games so far. Outside mid/wing. We traded 54 and McCarthy for 42 which we on traded for Kreuger. We did another trade with Collingwood that got us the Kennerley pick. I think McCarthy will do well at Brisbane but given his injuries I think we got as good a trade as we could have hoped for and we need a good KPF.

We cant win really cause we kept plenty of players too long... and players have a lot more inputs these days. All we can do is return serve at Brisbane ..they probably owe us a win or two.

As we know potential means little.. will come back and see what we have in a year or two . I think there was some sort of link between him and another kid we drafted Jarvis..
