The Next Big Thing - Jake Stringer

I knew this would create a lot of negative views towards this post, however, I am happy to bump it up during the season and be proven wrong. I have watched him slowly get his body back since his terrible injury and know he hasn't had a solid preseason until now. His running style looks more free flowing at training (quicker & fitter). Going by most of the posters in here, He'll surprise a lot of you.
Most are saying he is very good. Will you be ok if they bump if he does not hit the high level you have set?

Levels above Cameron? He is my 1st pick of the young guns. Wines is fantastic but hit the ground running with size.

In terms of consistent output, Wines has to be in front of just about bloody everyone. But when you take size and needs into account, you make a good point...

I doubt supporters from other club's know how far off physically Stringer was when he arrived at the club, he was fat his skinfolds were in the 80s, his fitness was horrible and his running gait was terrible still after his broken leg. He's still a long way off his physical peak but his speed is back, as he was the quickest over 20m during the pre season testing. Bulldogs supporters don't need to make any big predictions for what he'll do on the field everyone will see that in time. I would happily get rid of Libba and Macrae if meant keeping Stringer given his huge upside.

Yes please bump this thread when Stringer rivals Ablett Snr

I think the fact that OP is going into the season with the intent of watching more North games to see the young gun Liam Anthony shows the depth (or lack of) of his footy knowledge. Yes Stringer is an exciting young player but precisely 0 people have argued that he will be very good, so talks of bumping this thread to prove us wrong is extremely stupid.

I think Jake Stringer is incredibly exciting, he does things the majority of young players cant do, feels like one of those players who will be damaging with every touch one day
Kids going to be a superstar, bulldogs best young talent IMO
That's my feeling. He is as exciting a player we've had on our list in a very long time, our stars in recent history haven't had the capacity to win a game off their own boot. Jake will win plenty. The kid has Big League Swagger.

Other clubs should really learn a thing or two about how stupid Melbourne were by putting pressure on their young kids. It's basically destroyed an entire generation of draftees.

Just let them develop in peace and stop putting them on a pedestal.

We have at least let them prove themselves at AFL level before making judgement. Not to mention Stringer out of any of our young stars doesn't get the media hype that libba, bonts, boyd and macrae yet not to mention hes not the type to overthink that type of stuff. I don't think Jakes the type of character who would be reading much into what media plaudits say about him.

He sounds like a poor pick

Kids a gun. Plays kpf very effectively and undersized (yes kpf because he draws kpds and beats them). Is a second forward. His ground work is his strength though although he has a hanger in his arsenal. Let's just watch the kid blossom

Not sure this belongs on the main board but either way...

Probably has the most talent on our list. I really hope he can transition into the midfield at times this season. Is brilliant through there. Breaks tackles, has a good burst of speed and is precise with his kicking.

Comparisons to Gary Ablett Snr are a bit far fetched.
