Roos!!!!
I am a Roos supporter- just came in here to tell you who I think will be the next Ottens (I hope as well- Ottens is a great player)
*drumroll please?*

DAVID HALE!!!!!!
I am sure you all know- he was drafted by the Roos this year- he is a 200cm forward from Broadbeach, he is Hale the Great Northern Hope. He will take at least 3 years to develop- and will need as many weight sessions as possible- being only 85kg- and that 85kg is spreadout through 200cm!
His new nickname is GentleGiantJnr (Jnr to Spider Burton)
That is who I think will be the NEXT Ottens!

On Ya Hale!!!!!

Go Roos 2002

I think it is too early to refer to anyone as "the next Ottens", because Brad Ottens isn't "there" yet. Ottens still should and must improve.

Certainly this young fellow of yours has the height - but tall blokes often take a while to come good. That's where 'Otto' is a bit different - he is already a very good footballer at a fairly early stage in his career.

We here, though, would still like to think that Ottens can become a lot better than he is now

But I think it is important that the Roos find a few good young talls very quickly, because most of your good youngsters are short. Hale may be your "Great Northern Hope", but it would be wise to have a few other "each-way" bets just in case.

I agree fully :)

Will Hale be the next "Ottens" after Josh Fraser? :p

As for how good Ottens is and can be...

I remember when Lance Whitnall first came onto the scene as a 17 - 18 year old and was able to start playing straight off at CHF. Leigh Matthews - then a Channel 7 commentator - said at the time that he worried about Whitnall and thought that maybe he wouldn't be able to improve any further and was as good as he was going to be.

From then, I really don't think that Lance has improved significantly - sure he is probably smarter, and definitely is fatter! - but that doesn't matter. That's because he already was good enough to make a good league footballer.

Even if Ottens doesn't improve any further, it is no cause for alarm because he does have enough ability already.

Still, I do think that he will get better and will drag us up, kicking and screaming, towards an inevitable premiership.
