The gauges they used to measure the pressure were reading more than 0.5 PSI differently, and no-one is sure which one was used pre-game to measure and which was used at half time. Not to mention the effect of cold weather on gas volumes.

It was only Goodell who decided they were guilty, not a jury of 12 of their peers! The appeals process did not surround the error measurement, just Goodell abusing his power.

I'm sure the Pats would have been confident of victory either way, the advantage gained is negligible.
