May I ask, do they have any insight on the situation? I don’t mean to be insensitive.
They don't speak English well, so I'm relying on Facebook translate to figure out what's going on with them, but here's some of the shared stuff from others.
Looks like Natalya is in Poland now with her kids.

You're equating me saying "not a reason for invasion" with "nothing to worry about"

Stop being a smug point scoring campaigner

No, but I'm very interested in the space between those two.

Probably best to leave the discussion here though - I can appreciate it must be ****ing awful having loved ones in that situation, and as you say, the last thing you need is an internet smart arse like me getting involved.

Nazi support at last Ukr election - 3%. (I had read 2%.)
Posts with Nazi references - 60%-ish? (I didn't count.)

This is not the main game. But it's awesome at muddying discussions, which I suppose is why it's such a good propaganda tool. One of the posts above indicates far right support in Ukraine is comparable to other European countries .. so I assume we can expect Nazism to take over those countries as well.

Ah yeah dude, that's actually what happened last time we decided not to worry about Nazis because another force was deemed at the time to be more dangerous (again, the Russians albeit in a Bolshevik form.)

I’m pretty sure the second biggest party in Austria is far right. France has a growing far right political party. Obviously Germany still has a far right. It’s a bit of a worry.

Most of them funded by Putin for years, Putin funded the Brexiteers as well, all part of his long strategy against EU/NATO expansion and just general power politics.

So Vlad's plan is to stoke nationalist pride in Western nations off a perceived threat of firstly a refugee crisis and then a reanimated soviet empire in the east, and in doing so bring down the western democratic capitalist apparatus that is the EU and replacing it with a fragmented and in-fighting Europe?

That would be the "stretch goal" but even the process has got him lots of wins.

UK has left. Hungary is hollowing out EU values from the inside.

He'd wanna be careful what he wishes for. A reanimated and nationalistic Germany anyone? Or a pan-European fascist front that views Russia as a threat?

He'd also want to be careful about Ukraine providing a catalyst for improved inter-European relationships and co-operation. Instead of cracking the EU further he might just strengthen it again.

He clearly views having NATO on his border as the bigger risk.

It was after NATO overthrew Gaddafi (despite having done peace deals with him lol) that Putin went full radge as it were.

I mean none of this should be a surprise.

He said this over a decade ago.

“Almost all of Gaddafi’s family has been killed, his corpse was shown on all global television channels, it was impossible to watch without disgust,” Putin said. “The man was all covered in blood, still alive and he was being finished off.”

He obviously thought he was next and likely with very very good reason given NATO's entire reason to exist to to defeat and subjugate Russia.

Noting the psychopathic loser Hilary Clinton openly gloated about what happened to Gaddafi.

Disgusting yes, and I don't doubt he was angry but there is no way he could feasibly think he was next. Not without starting a hot war with Russia and that ain't ever going to be an active NATO goal. Never. They would happily keep and angry Putin in power forever so they can justify their military spend and spread, as long as Vlad doesn't go invading. Now he has we shall see what comes next.

Yeah, not cool. Not cool at all.

Gadaffi got what he deserved for being the brutal, murderous campaigner he was, but its a little rich for another 'leader' to gloat about it.

Because there’s no kids there? Seems pretty logical. What other big spaces could they use? Would you rather they kick people out of their homes?

If there's kids going to school because everyone has left, there'll be nobody in the homes either.

They're setting up in the school for the very sound reasons I outlined before.

It is war bro.

Remember when they caught Gaddafi that bloke shoved a sword up his backside? That was brutal.

Yep, and then a Western special forces dude appeared and put a round in his head because the last thing they wanted was Gaddafi actually put on trial where he might spill secrets about all the shitty cynical deals the West did with him.

Love that the play nice tag has been added to what was originally a very productive and respectful thread.
War does tend to be ugly and divisive.

In Australia we think of WWI as being a kind of sad but happy time where the nation united around the horror of Gallipolli and the Western Front but then we won so all good.

The reality is the conscription debates of 1916/17 were horrifically ugly and divisive, families split apart etc.

There's the first real major war in decades - we in the West are too cowardly to attack nations that can genuinely defend themselves like Ukraine - so of course things will get heated.

The Wagner group receiving significantly less publicity whilst operating in the same theater as azov amuses me

Just saw this.

Just a warning though, whilst there’s nothing graphic in these tweets, this bloke posts videos of fighting between the Russian and Ukrainian forces, so be careful if you look through his timeline.
