Let’s be honest thou this isn’t an attack on race but class, this will lead to universities not being able to use other factors. It favors those who grew up in affluent, educated households surrounded in privilege.
Yes and no. On pure theoretical principles, affirmative action is by its very nature racist. It is intended to uplift where meritocracy failed, but it has done little to improve educational standards for Americans. Some on the left want to go full max with AA in response, while the right point to the meritocracy being proven superior and needs strengthening.

Some will also counter by citing some form of Hegelian power dynamics, etc. Or they argue it entrenches class issues (more Marxist in theory, ie conflict theory). The rural v urban debate is interesting in this context, particularly the rural South.

The problem the Right has is that they are right that Affirmative action is racist and it adversely affects Asian Americans for example, but a pure meritocracy has issues. It is not properly accompanied by supporting socioeconomic and education policies for those struggling, so they do little to uplift the overall standard.

Well thought out response cheers!

I do wonder if this was a counter to the whole admissions scandal plaguing the states, elite logic, if wealthy parents can’t buy their way into elite schools, there’s clearly to many spaces being handed out.

Worth noting the US system is a bit more distinct in the educational affirmative action sphere. We have our AA here of course, but a big difference in scope, etc.

Lol @ The Warlord, I’ll see you in a a couple of weeks, the new avatar is going to get you a holiday on the mainboard from some over zealous button musher, totally worth it.

I've struck a deal with Chief where I'm restricted to North board only.

My light burns too brightly for the main board

A perfect example of why the 'people aren't allowed to choose their own nickname' rule exists in Australian culture.

Nice try though Simpin!

No pleasing some folks, anyway I'm not Australian and their culture sucks.

If American society genuinely cared about that stuff then Affirmative Action wouldn't be necessary in the first place.

My wife has been following this tictok account called Ramsay Solutions, she’s heard me for years talk about wealth inequality for years in the states, travelled there a few times but I think it’s the first time reality hits home after listening to these people from middle America, who have massive education debt and are in shit pay working for the government etc.
for example one guy got a masters of finance from a top uni, he’s the first of his family to go to collage, gets home after racking up $200k of debt, compiling interest, now working for $70k as a cop because it’s the only job in his area.
America hey.

Obama did it all the whitest way possible - edited the Harvard Law Review - and as soon as he wore a tan suit they called him That Word and then elected the guy who'd spent years spreading racist lies about him.

Have you read the Jakarta Method?
In 1965/66 roughly a million people died in Indonesia because of their political beliefs.

It must’ve been a pretty shocking childhood for him.

Look at this map of fires in Paris.

Seven only inside the periphique.

Never read it but aware of the events.
Yeah before others jump up and down, not suggesting his cia mother was anyway involved.

Just being around those events are shocking. Peoples interactions with each other change when something like that happens, that would’ve been a fair chunk of his childhood dealing with rightfully traumatised peoples.

Sounds like parole.

No, just an agreement between friends about an internet site.

Who are the Washington Commanders versing this week?

They're coming off a series of losses to the Baghdad Scribes and Kabul Mountaineers so would be keen for a win.
