How can you possibly come to the conclusion that the bombing of a Ukrainian nuclear power plant is part of Ukrainian strategy. They can’t be responsible for any of this. They’re defending their country.

They are choosing to stay and fight there.

Of course they are. I’d do the same in Australia. Jesus.

Imagine if a large country decided to invade Australia, do you think we’d be like, “oh ok. Yeah take it.” Ffs

If they choose to stand at fight at a massive nuke plant, then they are also putting their country at risk.

That's why I'm saying this is a very deliberate strategy on their part.

They could withdraw a few ks.

So essentially we're looking at the possibility of something resembling more of a Fukushima level disaster than a Chernobyl level disaster.

No idea, but it is clear the Ukranians are desperate to make this sounds as bad as possible.

I haven't checked, but I suspect the Russians/Soviets built the plant so are probably very aware of what they can and can't do around in terms of attacking.

Or Russia should never have started bombing the plant or start the invasion.

Putin is removing the free speech law brought in by Gorbachev, starting tomorrow a new law will be brought in that will see anyone who speaks out of line with Moscow face years in jail.

Talk about unraveling.

They didn’t ask Russia to bomb it.
Of course not. I was being a bit facetious.
I hope its obvious that SBTDOTB and I have quite different interpretations of what's going on over there.
But I'm pretty happy to give the sabre rattling a wide berth for a bit.
I'm WFH and its nice to have this platform to digest / sanity test this crazy stuff since I used to do it in person with my colleagues and at the moment that isn't an option.

Maybe the Russians should never have built them the plant in the first place, and left them cowering in their stables with their donkeys for warmth?

Wow, that pretty quickly went from disaster worse than Chernobyl, to reactor under repair with some nuclear material, to outside the perimeter of the plant in a training building!

People so keen to swallow Ukranian propaganda because they are the pretty white goodguys.

By stationing troops there they did.

Anyway, looks like it is just a propaganda stunt.
Flip side is...the decision to shell targets around a nuclear facility was a pretty bad idea and tbh I'm glad the Ukrainians were drawing everyone's attention to it.
As that tweet thread you posted earlier pointed out: "it is massively irresponsible for Russia to have taken any action that put this plant at risk."
It just highlights the need to verify and corroborate the claims from both sides.

About 56 minutes judging from the timeline on the ABC blog.
Or a little under two hours judging from this thread. ;-)
