Taiwan is heavily infiltrated with Chinese spies, if we share intelligence with Taiwan, we are sharing our intelligence with China as well.

Australia is heavily infiltrated as well, and nobody is going to share intelligence with us as long as we have idiots like Morrison and Dutton in power.

The only reason China won’t take control over Taiwan is because Taiwan is backed by the US. The moment China thinks the US won’t stick fat with Taiwan, China will be straight into them.

If the US abandons Taiwan China doesn't need to invade. It can just wait.

We aren't infiltrated at an intelligence level, there have been attempts by China to have spies run for office, but there is a lot of scrutiny of political candidates who are involved in intelligence. You can't even work cleaning the toilets without a thorough background check. Most MPs have no interaction with intelligence.

China is good at brute forcing espionage, things like bribery and stealing technology, if you bribe enough people then someone will eventually have loose enough morals to take the money and you only need one person to take the bribe and it doesn't really matter if they get caught afterwards. The pool of candidates is pretty large and so even if it has a low probability of success, the large pools makes it effective.

However, it is not an effective strategy when it comes to subterfuge, which is what you need to have spies at a political or intelligence level that can either influence policy of gain access to sensitive information. If the country is well aware you are actively trying to infiltrate the government it gets exponentially harder to achieve it and Scotty made a public statement about it in 2019 about China's attempts to install a spy in Canberra.

We are a member of the five eyes, so saying nobody is going share intelligence with us is a weird comment.

China is very much about grey-zone warfare. Chipping away slowing at just below the threshold of a hot war.

China couldn’t have made themselves anymore clear about their stance on reducing emissions for climate change. Have they even bothered to phone in yet?
They generally know when to hold and fold on particular issues.

Wtf, this story is strange..
Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards foiled an attempt by the US to “steal” the Middle Eastern country’s oil in the Sea of Oman, Iranian state TV reported on Wednesday, saying the incident took place recently.

Reads like posturing over a minor naval showdown in the gulf.

The U.S. Army has officially reactivated the 56th Artillery Command in Germany. This unit was previously active in that country between 1963 and 1991, during which time it commanded battalions armed with Pershing and Pershing II nuclear-armed ballistic missiles. In its new guise, it will serve as a hub for artillery operations across Europe, including deployments of new ground-based hypersonic weapons and other longer-range missiles in the coming years. This reflects just how important the Army feels these new capabilities, and artillery in general, would be in any future major conflict in the region, especially against Russia.

Lawyers for a teenager charged with shooting three people amid civil unrest in Wisconsin last year have called for a mistrial.
Kyle Rittenhouse's defence asked that the case be dismissed after the judge angrily rebuked prosecutors for airing apparently inadmissible evidence.
Mr Rittenhouse, 18, sobbed earlier in court as he took the stand.
He testified that he killed two men and injured a third on 25 August 2020 on the streets of Kenosha in self-defence.
Mr Rittenhouse is facing counts of reckless, intentional and attempted homicide after he fatally shot Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, 28.
Riots had erupted on the streets of the city two days earlier after police shot a black man, Jacob Blake. Mr Rittenhouse had travelled to the city from his home in Illinois and, with a semi-automatic rifle in tow, he said he sought to help protect property from unrest on the streets.

On Wednesday, day seven of the trial, lead prosecutor Thomas Binger and Judge Bruce Schroeder loudly quarrelled in court.
Mr Binger's line of questioning incurred furious reprimands from Judge Schroeder, who accused him of violating pre-trial rulings on introducing evidence not relevant to the trial.
"You're an experienced trial lawyer," shouted the judge. "I don't know what you're up to."
The judge added: "When you say you were acting in good faith, I don't believe you."

Probably more RC thread related, but it is (unfortunately) a very highly politicised case.
