I'm not sure how in any way the current situation has benifited Russia their miltary strength has been shown to be vastly over estimated and this incident with Wagner has undermined Putins postition. As well as all the sanctions placed on them.


It's safe to say this conflict is different to most modern conflicts in that Ukraines armed forces have held their own and recovered a lot ground from the Russians.

For sure, but you just had your own mercenary group seize one of your own cities, shoot down several helicopters, get within 200km of Moscow, then have Putin call Wagner traitors and then fully clear them after Belarus’ leader negotiates a deal (likely under Putin’s direction). All within 24 hours.

No matter how you spin it, this exercise in ‘gangland politics’ has made Putin appear incredibly reactive and weak, and had an overt destabilising effect during wartime.
