Re: Dan Hannebury

Two s****** worthy notes from the HUN this morning.

In Mike's weekly captain obvious piece, he writes that this is Carlton's best season since 2000. I think he got a bit carried away here, though:

Bryce Gibbs, now elite;

Elite? So he's up there with Judd, Buddy, Ablett etc is he?

Calm down, Mike.

And this one was clearly a clerical error, but still found it funny. In their team of the week:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/team-of-the-round
Rory Sloane: Is this his best season? Maybe shedding the captaincy has helped.

Boy, it's almost as though he's a different player.

Must have initially had Mitchell in there before swapping to Sloane.

Not that it's a relevant argument anyway - Mitchell was elite last year and is elite this year.

Re: Dan Hannebury

I disagree on him previously being "elite", but either way, this has to be his best year.

IMO he had some really good years between roughly 2005 and 2008, but 2010 wasn't up to the same standards. Whereas this year he's arguably been the best performer in the competition over the course of the year.

I really like Luke Dahlhaus. Has brilliant speed and for some reason the boy appeals to me. Hope he has a great career. :thumbsu:

Yeah I wasn't a fan until Saturday night (I thought he was another Ben Mason, overhyped because he was nippy & dreadlocked), but he's got some massive talent.

Isn't just a blaze away kind of player, either; he runs to the right spots with speed, and then makes smart decisions by hand or foot.

He's great on the pressure, carries the ball and uses it pretty well.
Nason pretty much just carries the ball.

Nason came straight from SANFL reserves. If a guy's that little they want to be bloody good and he's not as good as Shane Edwards, let alone King or Nahas.

Dahlhaus was a rookie IIRC.

In my opinion a player can't be considered 'elite' until they have proven it in finals.

Judd, Ablett, Hodge, Goddard, Hayes et al. have all proven it on the big stage.

Gibbs has not.

When a team hands out a 10 goal flogging to a bottom 9 team, thats no real indication of how good you are. When you make an absolute super human effort to get your team over the line (or just on the line in the case of Goddard/Hayes) then you can be considered elite. Until then you are just another player that plays well under normal conditions.

Indigenous or not. It's been an odd blind spot in our recruiting for 2-3 years now: someone with a good work ethic, decent kick, and above all pace.
They obviously rate Winderlich, Davey, Jetta and so on for those roles - which is fine, but how long can they ignore the fact that the former have massive issues with their bodies?

Elite: Representing the choicest or most select of a group.

"Most select." So that's your absolute top shelf players:

Judd, Ablett, Franklin, Swan, with cases for probably 5-10 others.

I don't have a problem with people trying to argue, for example, that Pavlich is an elite player. He's thereabouts, and has been for a long time.

That's another key point. IMO, you need to have done it for at least two years.

But when people like Luke Darcy, or Mike Sheahan, or the average punter try to say that people like Bryce Gibbs are elite, I can't help but laugh.

So Gibbs is in the most select group of players in the league, apparently.

In other news:

Yo momma so fat she went bungee jumping and went straight to hell!

Does anyone know what McGinnity actually said to get a one week suspension?
