Thats not spud is it? Sounds nothing like him.

For someone with such vaunted skills and composure, Yarran sure did sell his side into trouble a lot tonight.

Some of them just fold like a deck chair under genuine pressure.

For a much-anticipated Friday night blockbuster, it was a pretty god-awful game. One of the worst games I've seen all year that didn't involve St Kilda. Carlton's spirited comeback looks attractive, but boy did Hawthorn take their foot off the pedal in that second half. Without the crushing scoreboard weight that you usually need to do such a thing.

And MY GOD, I think the 7 team are more obsessed with Judd than 10 are. I've never seen a player have so many shots dedicated to him for so few possessions, and such little influence. The breaking point was when Cometti described Hodge's performance as "almost Judd-like!" Disgusting.

That and the endless cuts to Ratten... while play was going on. I wasn't even aware that Clarkson was in attendance until the 4th quarter.

Seriously, the highlight was when Watto went and spoke to the Old Fox, who was blathering about total crap as usual.

I laughed at a contest where Hodge and Judd went for the ball, Hodge stayed over it and held it up against another player, whilst Judd sat on his hands and knees two metres off the ball. What did the commentators say? "Judd attacking the contest!!!" Unbelievable.

But yeah, Tim made it pretty clear he had no interest in talking to Sheeds. Wouldn't even look at him during the interview, and was the first time I've ever seen him not nod in response to every comment from the interviewee.

Have to agree witht he quality of the game.

Hodge was brilliant - BOG for me.

Hodge was brilliant - BOG for me.

Absolutely, but surely a Norm Smith Medalist, premiership player and out-and-out champ in his own right doesn't need to be compared to Judd. Surely Hodge's performance was just Hodge-esque.

Hahahaha have a listen to this fellas. From Spud himself :D

ahhhhhhhhh good stuff

"The two time Brownlow medallist. Ermm, never mind that he was clearly not the best player in either 2004 or 2010.. but that doesn't matter. The champ!!"
He was very good in 2004. Didn't deserve it last year though

He wasn't even expected to place in 2004.

Tredrea was the best player that year, followed by Riewoldt.

You could maybe mount an argument for Chad Cornes or one of the Brisbane fab four (IIRC Lappin was the pick that year).

And Judd, being an explosive midfielder in a goodish side, romped it home on 30 votes.

I love him as a player, and he probably should've won one in 2006 or 2007 (injury robbed him in 07), but he certainly wasn't the best player in 2004. I'm adamant. I remember it clearly.

Meh unless all you people used to complain at the commentators creaming over Hird you shouldn't have an issue with them creaming over Judd.

Judd is one of the greatest footballers of all time. Of course they are going to pump him up.

And lol at not deserving to win either of his brownlows. If only people watched the games more closely instead of concentrating on the stats. I will give the votes to the guy that single handedly wins his team the game any day of the week. He was absolutely brilliant last year and he amazed me how many times he willed himself into games and got his team the chocolates.

For someone with such vaunted skills and composure, Yarran sure did sell his side into trouble a lot tonight.

Yarran was excellent, again. Probably their second best player behind Kade Simpson. He was instrumental in getting the Blues back into the game in the second half.

He does occasionally put his team mates under pressure but this is only because he takes the most attacking option at all times. He is given a license to do so and it is for the betterment of the team.

Spot on SJ5.

Too many here tend to observe through red and black coloured glasses.

The explosiveness of Yarran off the HBF and when he pushed up onto the Wing, pressing hard on the Hawthorn defence in the second half, allowed Carlton to charge forward and keep the ball inside their forward 50.

Without that whirlwind rebound, they would never have been able to turn the tide; combined with the improved clearance work in the second half, they had Hawthorn on toast.

In a lot of ways, the way that Yarran has played this year is almost an evolution of the way Mackie used to play for the Cats as that attacking sweeper who would just charge forward and cut through the attacking midfield line. Both players also tend to march through the corridor and really straighten their sides up.

Interestingly, Dempsey was playing this role earlier in the year, the game against the Bulldogs was to be a real template for the way that he would play under the new coaching regime. Defensively, he would be in front of Yarran, but what he lacks is the kicking ability and the sheer physical explosiveness to break away from packs and tackles.

Well it is a midfield award so yeah on that basis Judd was probably in the the top few to win it each year. ;)
Brownlow definately an overrated award anyway.

I did think the commentators used to go over the top with Hird.

So I'll continue to laugh at them doing it to Judd. kkthankx.

lol. So you think Judd was better than Riewoldt, Tredrea, Cornes, Black in 2004? That he was better than Swan, Lake, Goddard, Hodge, Riewoldt, Sandilands, Ablett, Hayes in 2010?
Yarran was excellent, again.
So you disagree that he turned it over, or put his teammates into pressure a lot? And you tell us to watch the games closer.

Aren't you the guy that gives Dempsey absolutely no time of day?

Double standards.

judds been the best player this year comfortably.

I'm not silly enough to think that only one guy is deserving of a brownlow. There were 3 or 4 players last year who would have all been well deserving had they won. Much like Judd.

He was an absolute freak in 2004 and I can't believe that you are actually questioning his win. You certainly wouldn't be if he was playing for Essendon I can tell you that much.

Are you seriously comparing Dempsey to Yarran? Get your goggles off, dude. Yarran's skills are sublime and he is a weapon. He was instrumental in getting Carlton into the game last night.

FYI Yarran went at 80% de last night which was something like the 4th or 5th best efficiency on the ground.

Equal 4th best de% on the ground and that includes Bateman, who only spent 13 minutes on the ground.

Nice way of not answering my question. :thumbsu:

Of course I wouldn't. If it was Watson, I'd be stoked that one of our players had won, whether it was deserved or not.

Does that make it any less true? Of course not. Next.

Ahhahahaha. We've come 360 here. "sublime skills" is what made me raise the point.

My comment was that he sold a lot of teammates into trouble last night. You still haven't addressed that actual statement, but rather just argued for the sake of it. Typical. Get a clue. Address my specific points. Understand football. [strike]Come back to me.[/strike]

God you make this easy:
If only people watched the games more closely instead of concentrating on the stats.
Checkmate.

OK, you're really going on the ignore list now.

You don't have a clue. I'm not wasting my time with you anymore.

Instead of 'just' looking at stats. Nice try, champ.

I answered your question about selling team mates into trouble in my very first post. Not my fault you failed to read it properly.

Next time you decide to nitpick people for the sake of bignoting yourself, please understand the topic.

Please enlighten me oh great one. What is the topic? Seemed like a Blue bashing fest to me. What was the actual topic?

Your only retort to my Yarran comment was that it's because he takes the game on.

a) somebody with the skills and composure that he supposedly has wouldn't turn it over as often as he did. Don't see Goddard or Pendlebury doing that.
b) you don't afford Dempsey that same excuse
