- AFL signs record tv rights deal $$.
- Membership numbers (though can be a little dodgy) records are continually being broken just about every year for several clubs

As for TV viewership numbers I dont't have that but they'd need to include online streaming as well into it. I have seen some numbers of some games but never include streaming.

That doesn't suggest a problem with the game that needs any adjustment.

It is getting too meddled with by corporates. The AFL was set up to manage the league and I think they are going well outside of that. There are no big problems with the game. The AFL is the problem with the game.

They are there to manage to league. And not to insert politcs into it. And every year there one more added so and so round.

It's like the corporates need to try and legitimize their jobs.

Gil worst CEO of AFL that I can ever remember. And I didn't even like Andrew before him.
I watch nearly every game on my phone. I dont have, want or need foxtel. I can direct link my device to the tv. Job done.

An example of what i don't like about today's game style:
In the first 5 minutes of Saturday's game we had a stoppage in our forward 50:

All 36 players on the ground were in our half, 30 of them were inside our F50, another 4 stood between CHF and the 50 arc and the other 2 were in the Square.

It's terrible to watch and i can't understand why people think that's good for the game.

Thanks, Gil. I liked a tweet by Cameron Ling today. If you and Whately could just stop your change campaign, that would be great. I am so over this transparent routine of promoting ludicrous ideas so we think merely stupid ones are acceptable middle ground.

Yeah the congestion shits me but I'm hoping it will correct itself over time.

As soon as the AFL bring in rules, they will be exploited or unintended consequences will trail. I just wish the AFL would actually do their due diligence for once before they acted. They are a ******* shit show tbh...

I think its in a pretty bad state, to the point i only now watch north games and bit and pieces of others. I hate the numbers around the ball in all games.

I agree with you on all of your other points.
I used to watch a lot more football, but that's to do with the afl than the game.

They are the opposite of transparent.

Things that concern me-

- salary cap
- mro
- umpiring
- media
- compensation
- fixture

The list goes on. Almost all of my concerns are outside of the actual product on the field. I just feel everyone is getting sick of it...

I agree, all the things you've mentioned need fixing.

But on field I don't want to see every player in one 1/2 of the ground, i don't want to see 28 players around a stoppage. I don't want to see coaches implement 18 man zones at kick ins. I don't want to see forwards going 1 on 3, i don't want to see players having 15 tackles in a game, i don't want to see sides winning with scores of 11 or 12 goals, I don't want to see players rotating on and off multiple times in a qtr.

That's not the game i want to see, it's crap.

Yeah all valid criticisms of the current game. It's going to be such a fine line between all out offence and all out defence that I feel the afl needs to trial this over a season- starting with dead rubbers this season...

I'm worried well go from what we have now to 190-60 point drubbings regularly

I've heard this a few times. If it's easier to score for one team, won't it be easier to score for the other?

The trial games will be some of the best rating games of the year, if they go ahead. Hopefully they do.

We watched the GC and Sydney games in New York at my brother's place in a similar fashion, via his laptop hooked up to his tv. The fact they have super high speed internet speeds make a massive difference, as well as 5g. He told me he watched every game like that and also managed to watch most of the AFL related tv stuff like AFL 360.

Is that via a HDMI cable?

I am paying $65 a month for AFL and some car watching and free AFL on tablet/phone

I watch our game.

I might watch the last q of a Friday night game and maybe Sunday last q.

I rarely watch the whole game of a Non North game during the H&A season.

Watch all the Finals because of the quality of the teams and their skill more than the 'look' of the game.

Wont watch this years GF if Eagles v GWS.

The only rule I would like to see in 2019 is throw the ball up and a free kick against third man up. Nominating for the Ruck slows the game down.

how's this.

Sitting at the lights this morning the guy next to me is looking at his phone on his lap. We make eye contact and I raise my eyebrows and shake my head. He winds down his window and says he's trying to work out directions to get to the airport so he doesn't miss his flight. I give him direction and then realize its McLachlin! So after he clarifies the directions I say, "And don't go Changing the Rules" he looks at me puzzled and begs my pardon.
I repeat, Saying "the AFL Rules, don't change them."
"oh, thats my Brother, don't worry the media are beating it up!"
"Yeah, its a problem with the media at the moment, everything is getting blown out of proportion" I reply.
Lights turn green and he shakes his head and mutters "yeah media, huh." as he drives off.
Hope he made the flight!
He didn't know how to get to the airport?

I agree. And also change the 50 meter restricted zone rule as 50 metets only if the offending player actually comes into play. For example he shouldnt be able to smother, man the mark or tackle if he has been caught in the zone. This crap where 50 are being rewarded against a plsyer trying to get off the ground are obserd.

Well Sydney and Ross Lyon teams were also doing it.

Hawthorn and Geelong came along and the game went another direction. Bulldogs and Lolmond playing in a style that has made it gone that way a little. And they did because of the top team at the time which was Hawks and Sydney. It worked.

The game will change again, as it does.

And if people (not saying you) are watching the game for high scoring....thats just silly. Our game against * I found boring. Not because we lost. I don't see myself liking higher scored games at 120-140 more than a game ending at 70-80 each. If it were 50 then they normally are crap unless it was wet.

AFL are just slowly doing stupid things to the game over the past few years.

Here is a Tip. Build a Time Machine and go back to 1969. The game has evolved. Leave the Game Alone. It is Fine. :stern look

Here is the thing. Back in the Olden Days there were still shit games. The difference is that now days these shit games are televised and scrutinised a hell of a lot more than they once were. :stern look

I keep on hearing how we have the greatest game on earth but these same Dildoes down at AFL House that keep on telling me this want continue and change the fricken rules. Makes Sense. :stern look

Zones at centre bounces does nothing to resolve that.

Just get rid of prior opportunity:
1- Interpretation is way too inconsistent.
2- It eliminates around the ground ball ups.
3- It rewards players who try to break the tackle and dispose of the footy rather than the cowards who are happy to accept the tackle

Nope, if you get rid of prior you are just rewarding players who are second to ball.

Yeah I like the way footy was so much better back then, when 4 of 6 games didn’t even have a tv camera at them.
