But yes, his decline has been staggering, even taking his injuries into consideration. He was comfortably in the top 10 players in the competition at his peak, but looks an entirely different player now.

After Ross Lyon declared him the best footballer in the Afl in about 2010/11 Dale Thomas is now embarrassing to watch. Can not kick ,drops marks and looks terrible in a bottom team
Thoughts ?
Injuries haven't helped him, but it really is a remarkable fall from grace. Ross Lyon was right though, there was an 8-10 week period that season where there was considerable daylight between Thomas and the next best player in the league, he was phenomenal.

Ablett and Franklin weren't playing that year?

Obnviously they were, but there was a period in that season where he was that far ahead of everyone else it was ridiculous. I think he was outright favourite for the Brownlow and from memory there was a some distance between him and the next favourite. I can't remember who it was, but I recall an interview with a player or coach and I remember them saying that they just couldn't believe how good he had been in that period of the season.

It is a huge fall, but his peak would have been around Goddard's - so he isn't the only guy who lived up to his junior potential for only a relatively brief period. Also, it was 2010-11 - 5-6 years is a bloody long time in a footballer's career. Still, it's a good lesson (probably to be ignored) about how hard it is to transplant talent - Ablett and Judd may have still been great in poor teams, but not everyone can do it, injuries or not.

I'm talking regular season. Because with the Interchange cap and no sub an early injury is going to **** teams harder than peter north.
I liked that comment… injuries are part and parcel of the game unfortunately. Next man up. I was watching the 'That was the season it was' of 1983 and in the opening round, they mentioned the Sydney Swans won by a narrow margin over Essendon with TWELVE FIT players!! With much less scoring shots!!

It's how you manage the team and how they go about it. Play with heart / the ol' G & D and injuries are not gonna make the slightest difference because adversity builds character. Teams that look for excuses are either a team in denial of their non existent depth OR just a team with very FEW players who have the calibre of player of being in the trenches with when times get tough.

I think he was on the juice that year.

On a side note, will be interesting to see if you are better off punching an opponent in the face than tackling them to the ground ferociously.

Mitchell to get 1-2
Cock no doubt will get 2-3

Ours is an interesting sport.

Reckon Dermott dumped enough manure on the fire last night that Snipin Sammy Mitchell will get off again.

In the past to counter injuries teams would increase the interchange rate.

They can't do that now.

It applies to both teams though. Bottom line: Make most of your given opportunities. If you consider that every club last season LOST games by outscoring the opposition on scoring shots tells you that on any given day that regardless if injuries have an impact or not.. if you can't nail your chances (limited or not) then expect every little thing to continually compound (for the worse). It's more embarrassing when you have four or more scoring shots and allow the opposition to defeat you by 10+ points!!:straining:

How many times did that happen to North you may ask last season? ONCE. But to allow opposition teams to outscore you by 10+ scoring shots is abysmal.

That occurred on five occasions last season considering North had their best season under Brad Scott compared to the four times of allowing the opposition to outscore North 10+ times in his first season. Injuries were not an issue from what I recall. Play with heart and keep yourself in the contest.
