Did Gerard Healy really just say that Max Gawn had signalled his intention to take the number one ruck mantle in the AFL off Todd Goldstein??? And that his pre-season suggested he was up to it???

You must have misheard. Gerard thinks NicNat is the greatest ruckman of all time.

Yep, Oliver looked really good.
When was the last time someone said that about one of our young guys?? Clarke maybe but prior to that?? Would love to see one of our new guys come onto the scene and really give the Rising Star a crack, just doesn't seem to happen.

Luke McDonald ran top three two years ago.

Luke McDonald gave the Rising Star a crack in his first year. Fishy did the same. Unfortunately that was all before recorded history, so no wonder even our own supporters can't remember our last good new player. Does. Not. Happen.

Rising stars whilst iam not really interested in would be influenced by high draft picks. None of which i can recall since loogie and cunners.
You would have to go right back to wellsy to trump those i guess? Was jz a top 10 as well?

Bastinac and McDonald were toilers - never really stood out but played most games so got votes.

A few seasons later and one is interstate and the other a fringe player.

We haven't had a youngster burst onto the season and go one with it to push the elite of the competition ala Fyfe, Bontempelli, Hannebury, heck even Heppell. For whatever reason, our debutants plateau much earlier. Cunnington and Ziebell have shown that level at times but are inconsistent, at almost any other club you can guess their top ball winners each game, ours is a raffle.

Definitely an issue. None have become actual A grade stars. All battlers.

On an unrelated note, Steve Motlop is shadow of the player he was. Is fat and lazy now. What is with this family??
The man bun he was sporting on the weekend was shirley the last straw. I f***ing hate that look btw!

is it true that the 2016 richmond membership cards have a metallic strip around them to make them un-microwavable?
Used to be so friggin funny watching them and the media pump themselves up all pre-season only for the Blues to come out in round 1 and have the Tigers' season ruined by halftime.

Who are the 'A grade' stars we've left rotting in the twos?
Potentially speaking, of course.

Currently:

Dumont.
McKenzie.
Mullet.
McDonald.
Wood.
Daw.

And historically:

Greenwood.
Harper.
Urch.

All of whom had/have A-Grade talents that have been/were under utilised, in favour of less talented more blue collar types with a lower ceiling based on perceived essentially inconsequential deficiencies.
