In the off season the AFL needs to:
1. Make umpires full time
2. Get rid of every rules committee member and bring in a mix of recently departed players, coaches, and medical professionals (concussion specialist and general sports specialist).
3. Have a full and complete audit of the current rules, applying necessary changes.
4. Disband the ******* thing forever.
5. Sack everyone involved in the MRP, have the blokes who just gave the rules a once over to do the same to the MRP and hire more vocal and competent people to front it.

They do that and I'll probably go back to watching most games a week. I just want consistency. Lower umpire errors, get rid of grey areas, make it so we can all but unanimously guess how a report/incident will be judged. Bonus point for having football journalists and commentators participate shot enmasse and replaced with talented people.

Cant handle this Tugger H&A success. Maybe its building for a "harder they fall" scenario to keep us all entertained.

It's coming next week.

Saints to beat them again, drop out of top 4. Setting up a 1st week exit from the finals.
Well they've certainly let the lid off now. Flog on Finey's Final Siren before all up and about.

Can't wait until they get put back in their box.

Dream scenario:

Saints win. Tigers finish 6th
*Essendon win. Saints don't make finals.
Melbourne knock out togers week 1.
Sydney belt *essendon.
Plastic franchise wins the flag.

Welcome to North Kelly and Martin.

NO FIRST-WEEK FINALS FOR MELBOURNE?

-AAP

The AFL’s heartland city, Melbourne, could be without an opening-week final for the first time.

Adelaide and Sydney could host all the elimination and qualifying finals from September 7.

The finals will be spread over Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday afternoon and Saturday night, an AFL spokesman says.

Geelong need to beat Greater Western Sydney this weekend to ensure a final in Victoria - even then, it may not be in Melbourne with the Cats to push for a home-final in Geelong.

If the Giants defeat Geelong, there’s the likelihood of Adelaide, GWS, Port Adelaide and Sydney hosting finals.

The city of Melbourne has hosted an elimination or qualifying final since the system was introduced in the VFL in 1972.

But should a set of results fall this weekend, the city won’t feature as three Melbourne-based finalists will be on the road.

Adelaide, already assured of a home final, or GWS will finish top, and will likely host the Thursday night qualifying final, probably against Richmond. Geelong and the Giants will be second and third, with the order to be decided this weekend, with second spot hosting the Friday night qualifying final. Port Adelaide and Sydney are in the frame to host Saturday elimination finals, against Essendon and Melbourne respectively.

* Possible finals:

Thursday September 7: Adelaide v Richmond, Adelaide Oval or GWS v Richmond, Spotless Stadium

Friday September 8: Adelaide v Geelong, Adelaide Oval or Geelong v GWS, Geelong/MCG

Saturday September 9 afternoon: Port Adelaide v Essendon, Adelaide Oval

Saturday September 9 night: Sydney v Melbourne, SCG

Western Bulldogs list chief Jason McCartney yet to sign contract extension

JAY CLARK, Herald Sun

WESTERN Bulldogs are yet to lock away their premiership list chief Jason McCartney on a contract extension, leaving him vulnerable to a poaching raid.

The Herald Sun can reveal McCartney’s contract expires immediately following this year’s trade and draft periods at the end of November.

While McCartney is believed to have indicated his strong desire to stay at the kennel, clubs including Gold Coast and Collingwood are both looking to bolster their recruiting teams.

National recruiting manager Simon Dalrymple is contracted for another season with the Dogs and is also considered one of the leading talent identification experts in the country.

Dalrymple has been touted as a likely target for Gold Coast as the Suns prepare to make sweeping changes to their key football staff.

McCartney and Dalrymple and their talent spotters have excelled in recent drafts, despite having one of football’s smallest recruiting budgets.

McCartney, who joined the Dogs in 2012 and was re-signed in 2015, was lauded for his role in helping piece together the Dogs’ drought-breaking 2016 premiership team.

The former North Melbourne and Collingwood key defender secured premiership players Tom Boyd, Joel Hamling and Shane Biggs from other clubs and helped implement a retention strategy to protect their gun youngsters, such as Marcus Bontempelli, from big-money rival offers.

But the architect of the Dogs’ successful list strategy, McCartney, is still facing an uncertain future.

With only one game remaining in the regular season, there has been no movement on his situation as the Dogs prepare to enter another critical exchange period following a disappointing premiership defence.

McCartney is expected to meet with football director Chris Grant for key talks on his future immediately following the Dogs’ season.

They need to defeat Hawthorn on Friday night and rely on other teams ahead of them on the ladder losing to surpass them inside the eight.

Ben Ainsworth Nominated for rising star...on the back of a 10 disposal game lol.
Who does the noms for this thing?

Pretty much blindfold and cigarette time is well overdue.

Oh yeah. Bounced twice and stuffed one up so had to gather it in, umps are lenient as long as you bounce it occasionally.
After he'd controlled it he took another 15 steps before kicking, Umps didn't account for the length of his stride, ran closer to 25m than 15 over the last portion
