no need to jump to conclusions. I think i'd hold off on the abuse of Richmond because a player/former player with the mindset and problems that Mckenzie has may cloud his judgment and make it more easy for him to overlook the truth amidst his sheer anger and sadness. Now, i for one hope that he seeks professional help and that he returns to a stable state of mind, but to take pot shots over social media at the club which gave him an opportunity to fulfil a dream? that is low, very low from him. I think the likelihood is that Richmond are not in the wrong here, and his post was a spur of the moment type thing, but we'll just have to wait and see.
No need to jump to conclusions. Yet you finish your post taking the clubs side.

Righto.

Fwiw on the face of things I'm leaving to believing at least some of what Reece is saying. Have heard from a number of pretty good sources that a number of Richmond's staff are complete campaigners to the players and care little for their welfare.

The post of Reece's was (supposedly) a private post meant for his family and friends. One of whom then leaked it. He then took to Twitter once it was obviously out there and beyond denying it's existence

Looks like Richmond gave Reece personal leave from the club at the start of the year and not long after he returned gave him a clearance in July to go and play VAFA with his brother.

Either way, he did not play VFL this year.

Employers generally don't contact people on leave and nor do they appoint them CEO for not working. And as a listed player, I imagine he could have contacted the AFLPA during that time.

I left for work after the first 20 minutes. The only goal we looked like putting the ball into was the one behind Hugo.

So that's 2 chances to go top of the EPL and a chance to solidify 2nd in our UCL group that we've blown in a little over a week.

I swear any NMFC fans looking for a Premier League club, the feelings of forlorn hope and resigned disappointment can be yours year-round if you just jump on with the boys from White Hart Lane :thumbsu:

Spud it up as usual. Back to the Europa league you go.
How can you be such a great bloke most of the time, and such a fricken gooner the rest!?!?!

As someone who has been on leave for work related anxiety I can tell you that your employer is actually supposed to keep in regular contact with you to see how you are doing, if only to cover themselves.

If the work environment is contributing to the poor mental health of its employees, not contacting and supporting the employee is incredibly poor business

You're saying this but you don't know how it played out. Sure we have seen Reece's comments but it's quite common for people going through difficult times wanting to find someone/something to blame. I know I did. While I still feel let down by people, I also understand I didn't make it easy.

Then again he may be spot on about Richmond. The point is we don't know what has happened and it's actually a dangerous & delicate situation playing out.

Bottom line is a human beings life comes before football.

Point is we need to be really careful about taking one side or the other. Reece might be feeling really isolated right now and that scares me

I'm saying that because the poster I was replying to straight up said employers don't contact people on medical leave.

It was an incorrect statement. Nothing at all to do with Reece's case.

What a ******* shit show that was. Agree with Orange Peanut, between Walker's uncharacteristic incompetence, Sissoko looking like he'd struggle to get a game in Australias NPL and the general lethargy engulfing teh rest of the team, we were more likely to put it in our own net than theirs.

Need to win the last two now to qualify.

There goes your Poster of the Year award.

NLD could be a very happy game for you this Sunday with the way that we're playing.

What crap.

I said "employers generally don't contact people on leave." That would be medical or otherwise. Or in this case, personal leave was granted by Richmond for an extended period.

You state your leave was work related whilst Reece was reported as pre-existing to some degree at 16 or about 2 years before Richmond drafted him.

Richmond may be rubbish but I don't think you can blame them for a pre-existing condition.

Too many assumptions. Not up to us to get Richmond on or off the hook, but better not to generalise about employer responsibilities.

Well, Reece's manager seemed happy 4 months ago:

McKenzie’s manager Nick Gieschen lauded Richmond’s response to his issues.

“His brother plays at Old Marcellin as well and he’s excited about pulling the boots on and helping out his old club,” Gieschen said.

RICHMOND believes releasing key forward Reece McKenzie to play VAFA football will aid his recovery from a two-year battle with depression.

I'll pay that.

But by the players own admission, he had a failed suicide attempt at 16. Pre-existing.

Physically he only appears to have been at Richmond for about 15 months.

During which time I think he would get a mandatory 6 weeks off. And then in March 2016 was granted personal leave from the club. And then released to play footy with his brother in July.

Oh well then...

Also, my understanding is that this thread is meant to be for non-North football (AFL) thread, rather than a non-North any other sport thread. Mods, is it possible to have something like this for those who do wish to discuss other sports? I don't think we need a separate one as for the cricket (though I greatly appreciate that one being separate), for every other sport, but keeping this one just for AFL discussion would be appreciated.
