Continuing the bad run for the Coalition parties at the moment, the NT Government has pretty well fallen into chaos: After having been elected into government in 2012, the CLP rolled their leader while he was overseas in early 2013.

Then last night at 1am, it was announced the current Chief Minister Adam Giles had been deposed in favour of Willem Westra van Holthe. Although today Giles has made it clear he's not resigning, forcing van Holthe to attempt to find the numbers to govern in the Parliament and not just the party room.

The CLP Head Office is said to be considering suspending the entire parliamentary party, the ALP is (unsurprisingly) demanding an election. It's going to be interesting to keep an eye on, and another glorious reason to keep checking in on the NT News.

Giles must be hoping to pull something out of the hat. He'll cave like Bjelke-Petersen did. Shameful of him to put the Administrator in this position.

How do they campaign for an election in 18 months with a leader they voted out!

This can't be the last pit stop on the road to ElectionMania...

Anyone got any NT polling?

I think each seat only has about 2000 voters and combined with the transient population the swings can be wild and in all directions.

The leader who was a leader but who lost the leadership for a few hours before once again becoming leader must have kept a little black book in his back pocket for the wanna-be leader to bend over so willingly.

What a strange breed of politicians they must have up in the top end.

Its about 5,000 voters per seat.

Anyone with experience in Territory politics want to try to explain this to us idiots?

Nope.

they are a ******* rabble and that's doing a hideous disservice to rabbles.

Giles is an arrogant, unlikeable prick. he has one friend, the incomparably stupid and offensive Dave Tollner. The others that support him only do so out of either fear of him or because they see no better alternative. Pretty much all of them dislike him. If you think Abbott is unpopular, Giles would kill for that level of electoral support. This lot will be lucky to last a full term. However, there is no one else. literally no one else. Giles might possibly be competent at staying alive, the rest, walking and breathing at the same time probably requires all their mental capacity.

The CLP here are full of stupid, undereducated, unreliable, unlikeable people. I thought the previous labor govt was bad, they appear now to be geniuses.

the CLP won last time because of the rural seats which they never win and some gains in Darwin and Palmerston. They are likely to be massacred next time round in Darwin and Palmerston and i would not have a high degree of confidence in their ability to hold the bush seats they currently have.

there must have been some background thought by the administrator or even the Feds to have them removed and an election called or worst case scenario have the Feds take over.
