Apologies if anyone has already started a similar thread but I just had a quick scan and couldn't find one. Well, certainly not one that's started since the end of the round this arvo.

This is just a guide for the people rocking up to the games on the weekend or watching at home as to what your side will need to do to finish up ahead of certain teams as they jockey for positions in the eight. Some of it is pretty obvious but oh well - I wanted to make it as comprehensive as possible. Some of the numbers are going to be a bit blurry because of percentages, but if games are reasonably "normal" (not too high scoring or not too low scoring) they will be fairly accurate I think. I've ignored any scenarios where 100 point margins or more are going to be needed.

For Fremantle to get ahead of West Coast
Fremantle must win

For Fremantle to get ahead of Adelaide, Sydney and/or Essendon
If Fremantle win they will go ahead of whoever loses out of those three teams. They cannot pass any team on percentage.

For Adelaide to get ahead of Collingwood
Collingwood must lose and Adelaide must win

For Essendon to get ahead of Sydney
* This is only relevant if both teams have the same result *
Essendon must be 9 points better off
For example, Essendon win by 48 and Sydney win by 39
Sydney will know what is required of them at the first bounce

For West Coast to get ahead of Collingwood
Collingwood must lose and West Coast must be 45 points better off
For example - Collingwood lose by 9 and West Coast win by 36
If Collingwood lose West Coast will know what is required of them at the first bounce

For West Coast to get ahead of Adelaide
* This is only relevant if both teams have the same result *
West Coast must be 62 points better off
For example, West Coast win by 63 and Adelaide win by 1
Adelaide will know what is required of them at the first bounce

For Essendon to get ahead of Collingwood
Essendon must defeat Collingwood by 72 points

For Sydney to get ahead of West Coast
* This is only relevant if both teams have the same result *
Sydney must be 90 points better off
For example, Sydney win by 95 and West Coast win by 5
West Coast will know what is required of them at the first bounce

For Sydney to get ahead of Collingwood
Collingwood must lose and Sydney must be 133 points better off
For example, Collingwood lose by 50 and Sydney win by 83
Sydney will know what is required of them at the first bounce
