The numpty questions thread

I have 2 numpty questions.

1. I have no idea how the "international scholarship program" works - but does it mean that we have first dibs at getting Don Barry on a list next year so that he might have a shot at playing in the seniors? Appreciate he's probably still a bit off it yet, but recall during the year his "international" status meant we couldn't give him a run in the seniors, even if we wanted to.

Also don't like the idea of him being poached.

2. Appreciate this question is avoided if one logs in, but my work connection stuffs me round and logs me out some times...

So my question stands - is it too much to ask for the image verification on Big Footy's search thread funtion to be legible - it looks like a Swahili ink blot test - seriously, what the hell???

20 mins later, think I can answer my own question.

Looks like can be elevated to rookie list/primary list in Lodgment 1 (on 29 Oct), or International inclusion on rookie list deadline 23 Nov.

God I hate those image verification things. Normally you have to press refresh 10 times to get a readable one.

Wasn't aware that BigFooty were using them. Us mods must be exempt. ;)

As I'm not an actual Brisbane supporter (although do live in Brisbane and, naturally, do follow a bit of what's happening at the club) I didn't want to clutter up the board with a new thread so thought I'd post my couple of questions here. I'm sorry if they've been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find the matching threads.

Question 1: What impact, in terms of membership, do you think the Gold Coast team will have on the Lions?
If the GC are able to gather, for argument's sake, 15-20K members then I think it's reasonable to assume a percentage will have been previously affiliated with Brisbane (either as supporters of the Lions or supporters of other clubs who belonged to the Lions in order to see football in Qld). How large a percentage do people think that might be? If the GC were to gain that level of support yet Brisbane's membership figures remained the same do you think that would indicate the club hadn't done enough to attract at least a reasonable number of those people?

Question 2: Based on your observations (at games, etc) what percentage of supporters have purchased the new jumper ?

I have read countless posts indicating people's displeasure with the new jumper but, as we know, the proof of the pudding is in the purchasing. I can't say I've ever seen anyone wearing one, not even a kid, but I'm not getting to the games and that's where it will be accepted or rejected. So I'm just wondering what amount/percentage of the Lions crowd are you seeing in the new jumper. Is it a significant amount or so negligible as to be almost unnoticed ?

I think there's two questions: one is members who switched and supporters who switched. I suspect there will be quite a few of the latter. Gold Coast residents who enjoy AFL but hadn't developed a strong bond with the Lions. Qlders who get drawn across by curiousity of watching a game to watch Hunt. Stuff like that. In terms of members switching, you'd have to have a fairly strong commitment to a club to pay for a membership. I'm sure some will switch but I'd be disappointed if we lost more than 2,000 (to pull a number out of a hat).

If the GC were to gain that level of support yet Brisbane's membership figures remained the same do you think that would indicate the club hadn't done enough to attract at least a reasonable number of those people?

I'd be impressed with the club because we're obviously doing something right to hold on to all our members. I'm expecting a drop, so remaining steady will be a win to my mind.

Re: Posting Guidelines

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I could not find anywhere else to put it.
I am Hoping someone can educate me on some of the shortened meanings that appear in Big Footy posts like,

efa

op ( mainly see this in Bay 13 )

Thanks

Urban Dictionary

EFA: Usually used on forums when someone posts something they believe is fact and another more knowledgeable person quotes and edits the post, adding 'EFA' at the end.

OP: Short for Original Poster. Used on online message boards and forums.

Thanks very much Grim and Bob, whilst I am displaying my ignorance so well, can I ask where The numpty questions thread was ? I looked back through the 3 pages I have and could not find it.

It would not have been there. The list of threads only go back a for a certain time (eg. a month) depending on your settings (which you can change under "Display Options" at the bottom left of the screen).

I retrieved the numpty questions thread via the search function. It is also listed in the "Lions Forum links:- More Big Footy Lions info than you can post a stick at" thread.
