An Aussie XI in players by the best in that fielding position (That I've seen, for the opening bowlers, who will be McGrath and Lee)

Keeper: Adam Gilchrist
1st slip: Matthew Hayden
2nd slip: Ricky Ponting
3rd slip: Steve Smith
Gully: Michael Hussey
Point: Michael Clarke
Mid-off: Patrick Cummins
Mid-on: Nathan Lyon
Short Leg: Cameron Bancroft
Fine Leg: Lee/McGrath

In an XI format:

Cameron Bancroft
Matthew Hayden
Ricky Ponting
Steve Smith
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey
Adam Gilchrist
Patrick Cummins
Brett Lee
Nathan Lyon
Glenn McGrath

Obviously Bancroft is the weak link in there. I was tempted to go Marnus short leg, Lyon at point and Warner at mid-on but eh, Bangers is the better SL
Okay, doing this for a "still playing" group (in FC cricket minimum)

Keeper: Tim Paine
1st slip: Matthew Renshaw
2nd slip: Steven Smith
3rd slip: Aaron Finch
Gully: Peter Handscomb
Point: Nathan Lyon
Mid-off: Patrick Cummins
Mid-on: Glenn Maxwell
Short Leg: Cameron Bancroft
Fine Leg: Pattinson/Hazlewood

Renshaw
Bancroft
Smith
Handscomb
Finch
Maxwell
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Lyon
Hazlewood

Talk about Finch/Hank with the stick all you like, both have fantastic hands in the cordon.

Because Berry is so bad with the bat for a keeper I was tempted to have a part time keeper in diva and play the extra bowler. Noffke and Wright would obviously take the new ball, and I couldn't find an uncapped spinner as good as Fawad.

Wayne Prior unlucky to miss out.

Better batting and bowling record than each of Hopes, Nofke and Wright.
In his day he was generally described as the best player never to play for Aus.
Okay, let's look at their bowling records in the Shield:

Noffke: 75 matches, 254 wickets (3.39/match), ave 28.79, er 2.95, sr 58.4, 12 five-fors, 0 ten-fors
Wright: 86 matches, 282 wickets (3.28/match), ave 29.47, er 2.70, sr 65.3, 10 five-fors, 0 ten-fors
Hopes: 104 matches, 296 wickets (2.85/match), ave 26.75, er 2.47, sr 64.7, 11 five-fors, 0 ten-fors
Brayshaw: 101 matches, 178 wickets (1.76/match), ave 25.08, er 2.30, sr 65.3, 7 five-fors, 2 ten-fors

Sure he has a better average and economy rate but he played over 100 games for well less than 200 wickets. I didn't see him but his record, if better than the above, is marginal at best.

And since you want to talk about the batting as well, let's compare him and Hopes (including tour games for hopes due to not having his shield stats alone)

Hopes: 108 matches, 175 innings', 5402 runs, ave 31.77, 5 centuries, 34 fifties.
Brayshaw: 101 matches, 161 innings', 4325 runs, ave 31.80, 3 centuries, 26 fifties.

So by better batting record you mean far fewer runs at a marginally better average that if rounded to the first decimal place like most do is the same, with less centuries and less fifties in a very similar amount of games?

Yes I deliberately left Bradman off. Kind of cheating with Walcott and Hammond as keepers but I really don't care. I included Streak just because I didn't want it to be South Africa plus Flower.

I think North Atlantic would hold the edge given how much quality they have everywhere. Went with Compton as the back up allrounder due to Sobers' versatility.
