It's possible. There are a lot of tangible aspects of the role that technology won't likely be able to do in my lifetime.

But again, who would know.
Sucks to be taxi drivers, truck drivers, etc. who will all be a thing of the past soon. I think there's going to be a massive gulf between the classes before long and not sure if there's a solution.

How do you think taxi drivers/truck drivers are replaced?

Scary topic popped up at work today: the automation of work across all industries and where we'll be in 20 years. I just don't know how we deal with employment and ensure there are still enough income generating jobs for people.
Thought about that a lot myself over the last few years.

The cost and availability of tradies would improve which would be a nice change

The traditional low skill labor intensive industries are the ones who usually suffer the most from business automation, transformation or whatever the latest buzzword being used for procurement.

I think there's a bit of a threat to financial services firms in the next 20-30 years as well with a lot of analysis being provided by software programs.

Was having a chat to someone today that advisory is in trouble because there's analytics software that is able to assess Fin Stats and look at trouble spots and areas of opportunity etc. etc.
There is an element of that but they will still need people to review the data and outputs for accuracy. Pretty dangerous to rely on software and models entirely.

I know of a transaction that fell over recently because nobody in the TAS team had done modelling from scratch in years and relied on software and templates which was wrong. Took them weeks to find the error and the deal ended up falling over.

A grad at Goldmans over here found an error in Goldies risk management software a few months ago that the company had been relying on for a decade.

Humans are still required but maybe less so in terms of numbers of personnel.

Accounting and financial statement analysis is not black and white plus there are enough differences between IFRS and GAAP to ensure humans are required. Software would also struggle to detect manipulation if it is designed to just spit out an output.

Yeah absolutely, but as you say it'll be a process of streamlining divisions. 20 years ago there would have been double or triple the auditors on a job the equivalent size of the one I'm on now.

I don't think I will get the role.

Other guy is loved by manager and the current 2IC. He is the Golden Child and can't do much wrong. V frustrating. Could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.

I do now. The more I think about it, the more I want it.

I know I won't get it. There is clear favouritism going on. It's farcical.

That stinky girl in my team was scared to ask him questions and addressed this with my manager and the 2IC. So her, our manager and him went to get coffee this morning to discuss the issue!!!! For the first half an hour of work, and it just left me and one other person in our team. It's ridiculous.

Yeah I know you want it. You wouldn't have mentioned it if you didn't.

How long have you been there?

If you don't get it then just make sure you are first in line when another opportunity presents itself. From what you have said, your 'mate' will shoot himself in foot soon anyway haha.

It is a bit funny Cruyff's gone from saying he doesn't mind who gets it because the guy's his mate to complaining that he's the golden child who'll get it. :D

Since May last year. He started two weeks before me.

They love him too much, even if he did. He can't do wrong. He cried when he was pulled into the meeting room to be told off about the way he spoke to the smelly girl (hence the whole coffee thing, ugh, so contrived).

It sounds petty, but it's more complex that.

I didn't mind at first, but thinking about it after the interview, I do. Things change.

He is favoured, and unless you've been in a team where there is a clear favourite above everyone else, you don't really know what it's like and how frustrating it is.

I'm usually the favourite cos I'm the best. ;)

Just kidding, yeah that'd suck.

Every workplace is like that it seems. Not sure if this is reality or part of the human psyche.

There's always going to be someone less qualified than you and with less intellect or makes more money than you further up the food chain.

Life is a bitch like that.

It definitely does. They nurture him and guide him through and give him all the assistance he could possibly need.

He sent an email today to a client which won't make them happy and he goes to the 2IC "oh, if they call, you can take that call". And this is the guy they want to be the new 2IC. It's a joke.

Yeah.

I mean, I got an email from the 2IC saying

"Came across this email and it doesn't tell me much, neither do your notes.

Not sure if you had a conversations with the underwriter, but you cannot be sending emails like that.

Do you need assistance writing your emails? I am more than happy to help should you need it."

I was so annoyed that a) that was sent, and b) the incredibly condescending tone the entire email I had. It infuriated me.

For the record, my email basically said, hi team, job for approval, we await your response in moving forward, cheers.

Underwriter improved it with absolutely no issue.

Just a garbage last few days at work. So glad it's the weekend!
