Star Wars Movies for me
  1. Empire Strikes Back
  2. A New Hope (has the most charm though)
  3. Return of the jedi
  4. Rouge One
  5. Revenge of the sith
  6. Force Awakens
  7. Phantom menace
  8. Attack of the clones (Still the first star wars and movie i saw in the cinemas and watched it with my grandparents and dad so it does have nostalgia for me)

Over a certain size they do Glenn. Depends on when Cruyff's development got planning permission as to whether it will be required to be NBN ready. At the very least I would imagine each apartment would have to have a phone line.
It's five stories so it's considered a commercial development if that makes any difference.

Yeah surely we have a phone line.

Can't give you broadband because you're at the back of the building? It involves running extra cabling lol.

I assume you have a phone line installed as standard - perhaps apply for traditional ADSL 2+ through ISPS that use Telstra infrastructure.
Yeah me and the missus just kinda looked at each other when the Optus person said that and had this wtf look on our face.

ADSL might be our best bet..... if we can get it.

About time bad boy! Strap yourself in to the greatest show of all time!
Finished S1 last night, Tony is such a badass.

I'm only halfway through season 2 so you'll probably overtake me. Got distracted by binging star trek.

Decided to set a goal of reading at least 12 books in the next year. I used to read all the time and want to get back into it.
I made a similar decision a few weeks a go and am loving it. I'm usually a fiction guy but I've done Pirlo's, Gary Neville's and Bergkamp's books over the last couple of weeks and am making my way trough Zlatan's now. It sounds like I'll definitely have to add Cranston's to the list too.

You had to be alive in the late 70's to really appreciate the love for the first Star Wars film. If you've come to it retrospectively it won't have the same charm. Star Wars mania was real back then
Think it's still alive now mate. :D

No where near the same level though. The films just can't carry the whole mania the way the first two did. Everyone had a star Wars t shirt, we collected the trading cards and got all the toys for Christmas. I'll go as far to say it was a cultural phenomenon, something similar to the Beatles. Now it's just a Disney franchise trading off its past glory

If you say so. I think the mania when VII came out last year was pretty huge. Same with the prequels.

Anybody live or have lived in an apartment block?

Our new building won't have NBN as the area doesn't have it yet. We went into Optus today and they've said that because we are at the back of the building, the technicians can't put ADSL or something in.

They then recommended the 4G modem to us.

My questions I guess are, aside from the opening one, does anybody have any experience with 4G modems, or could they recommend something better?
This sounds like bullshit to me. As others have asked do you have a phone line in the apartment? If so you can definitely get ADSL internet. You will need to get the phone line activated by Telstra first, then either get an ADSL/home phone bundle deal or have it converted to a NODE line and get Naked DSL (this is what I did at our place).

As a new development there should be NBN cabling run from you apartment to the buildings MDF (Main Distribution Frame) so that when the NBN does come to your street you can have access to it immediately. Most ISPs will switch you over to it as soon as it becomes available.

There was big hype for the film last year that's true, but most people left disappointed. Therefore it didn't catch fire the way it did in '77, but then that was also down to it being new and fresh. Honestly, you had to be alive in 77/78 to understand fully

Think that's hindsight talking, at the time everyone loved it which was why it made over $2bn worldwide.

Anyway, really doesn't matter. It's still a huge cultural phenomenon.

Already one down: A Life In Parts by Bryan Cranston. Great read, super interesting to learn about his childhood.

Now onto Star Wars: Catalyst.
Similarly just started getting back into reading after a bit of a break (just takes one good book to fire it up again). Would be a good idea for people to use this thread to share good books they are reading.

Also a big fan of biographies/autobiographies, but fiction books that keep you guessing are the ones that are real page turners for me. Currently reading "The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair" about a writer who goes to visit his old professor and gets mixed up in the investigation around the death of a 15 year old girl that his professor had an affair with, have barely been able to put it down.

Loads of people went to see it, but that doesn't make it a cultural phenomenon. People saw it, had differing opinions and went back to their lives. Totally different to the late 70's when all us kids went SW crazy for a couple of years

My girlfriends siblings are obsessed. I regularly see little kids dressed up as the characters for Halloween and other events.

Did any of the franchise make it into this Christmas top-selling list? Despicable Me still rules the roost over here. Just had to fork out a ton on the stuff

I do agree with WR that things don't get the same sort of crazy big deal like they used to. Think it's because everything is so accessible nowadays that it's impossible to reach the heights of yesteryear. We'll never see another thing like Beatlemania or movies get the same sort of cult following like they used to because we can access so much more now that back then

In that way doesn't that make the crazes actually bigger now? There is a ridiculous amount of content people can access about their favourite topics. Marvel addicts can read comics, watch shows, post about them online, watch podcasts about them, buy toys, etc. etc.

Back then you queued up, watched the movie as many times as you could before it left the cinemas, bought the toys, played in the playground, and that was about it.

Does one mean more than the other?

Back then there was less escaping it than there is now. For instance apart from posters on here I don't know anyone that got into the new Star Wars. But back in the 70s there was less chance to escape from it so even the non hardcore got into it more.

Not denying the passion of support bands or movies get now. Just that they don't capture the masses like they used to

Fair enough, surprised you don't know anyone who has been getting into the new movies when every session I've been too has been sold out, even two weeks after it came out.

Bigger population now. As % reckon less people are watching it now than in the 70s

Back then it would have been tough to watch us sports and EPL or play good quality video games so can understand why say someone like myself would get right into it then but not now

JD makes good points elaborating on what I said. Frozen was a bit of a craze, as was bloody One Direction if you look at music, but somehow neither touched the public consciousness as either the Beatles or Star Wars. Maybe it is because we have reached a point of entertainment saturation
