Yeah you'd be amazed at how much satire 90s Hong Kong comedy does on everything in the globe, it's the best era for Hong Kong movies, you should watch all the Stephen Chow ones from that era, absolutely hilarious, the man's basically a genius

I'm already seeing it in action. But yeah... never really had the chance to binge some Stephen Chow, mostly because I couldn't find the material.

Love some of the older HK stuff, and well, am getting right back into it! So far God of Gamblers II is looking very good! It's just been 5 minutes of Chow, and already he's made his impact.

Anyone been to Bengalaru in India? Company wants me top help open up a call centre over there. Would need to spend 2 months there, not sure I could without the missus & kids. And them going is definitely a no no :(

Ah, Bangalore, close to Tamil Nadu's border. South India, so you're in the better part already. It's usually a popular place for call centres in general.

It's alright, but I wouldn't really recommend the place. It's an electronic city, but a bit boring, and well, you have to keep a close eye on your stuff. Food very cheap, but I think a bit on the lower side.

I'd recommend going there if you want to see the old Vijayanagar empire relics, but... that's it, really.

I don't know how you'd fare for 2 months. Living there would be cheap, but mostly everything is either in Hindi or Kannada. I can't spend too long there myself...

I'd say if you were doing it strictly for business, it would be a lot more bearable, but good luck outside of that.

God of Gamblers 2 with Chow was probably the best one, he owns that one

I think all his early work's on youtube, I dunno if they're in English though

Which is why I love Shaolin soccer so much coz it's basically the stuff I watched as a child with a Hollywood budget, I know every one of those actors and they're all legends long before the world knew them

Have been to India 41 times, not sure exactly how many times to Bengaluru but it would be at least a dozen. Back when it was more commonly known as Bangalore. Amazing city. Amongst my favourite parts of India behind Mumbai, Goa and Shimla.

Like many things about India, it's can be a shock to the system especially if not an experienced traveler in that region. I didn't do it though with a young family, that would be tough leaving them behind.

I've just learnt that weirdly that this seems to be a sequeal to two movies, the one involving Stephen Chow is called 'All for the Winner,' and that covers the supernatural powers. (I've just gotten to the bar scene where the uncle is getting the girl).

Hopefully there are, and that means more to cover!

Ha, I know that feeling, knowing the legends before they became big. I've seen both Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hussle, some really good movies those two, and well, getting to know the magic of Stephen Chow, and well, you can see his influence here quite clearly.

Interesting choices there. My picks would be Chennai, Madurai, and Puducherry (Guess what they all had in common). Kolkatta is also a good spot, probably the only North Indian location I'd recommend.

Wow, not even kidding at all, that was great! The movie is meant to be more centered around Andy Lau (he does a great job) but Stephen Chow steals the show fantastically well, to a point I was getting disappointed that we weren't going to see him gamble as well. Thankfully he does get some action near the end (don't know why, but the gambling scenes really do make the movie. Kinda like Casino Royale where I was far more invested in the game than the actual movie.)

My own question is how the hell did I not get onto this sooner?

I'm going to watch All for the Winner before I do God of Gamblers 3.

The only big major disappointing thing? I'm not going to see Chow Yun Fat and Stephen Chow together at the same time for any of those movies (that last scene doesn't count!)

Yeah Andy Lau was just supposed eye candy, Chow did everything. His gambling scenes were bloody hilarious though

There are dozens of 90s Chow movies, there are some others where he is either an undercover cop or there's a piss take of him being 007 (that one's legendary, you should get onto that). There are ones where he's in ancient chinese settings where he was ****ing great as well.

Chow Yun Fat never got onto the gamblers series for like 20 odd years until recently with Vegas to Macau, it is also the series that basically made him famous. There were TV dramas of those as well and when Chow and Fat used to do TV when they started out they killed it there. That's why they flirted with him appearing in 2 because that's all they can do, he wasn't gonna do them

90s Chow movies are the best thing, you should binge them all, they're all on youtube. It's a great testament to those movies that even if you don't understand Cantonese they're still funny, the Cantonese jokes are ****ing mindbendingly amazing

I'm used to most things about France coming from the US having French with British accents, it's just typical ;) Only Ratatouille tried to go full French but you can'r really have a BaTB movie sounding like those people

Mulan is next eh? Blatantly trying to pander to the China market I see, except Mulan was slammed in China last time 'round

If they have Aladdin out I'm probably gonna end up bagging whoever's doing the Genie coz no one will ever do it like Robin Williams
Couldnt they just literally shoot the Genie scenes shot for shot. Then just dub in Williams original stuff over the top of a new CGI Genie?

Also I heard there was a shit ton of material not used in the original film. Like they would just let Robin Williams go in the booth and then just picked and chose what to use. Im sure there is hours of stuff unused from that epic performance, so that could be used to even liven it up or have the Genie in different scenes if it's rewritten a little.

Bit disrespectful to use his old stuff now that he's passed away

He fell out with Disney in the first place coz they broke the agreement of not overusing him and Genie in promoting Aladdin, would be a dick move

Depends on what his family say I guess.
