Here's a track released just 11 years ago.

Not quite sure how Daft Punk became the "go to" band for edm music. Chemical Brothers did their thing far better. Great 90's edm artists (what I consider the golden age for that genre) like afx, Squarepusher, μ-Ziq, fsol, the Orb all put Daft Punk to shame

I've been rediscovering Oasis somewhat lately. They made some corking tunes they really did. Maybe the last of the great British rock bands. This one passed me by at the time, but what a great song

Oasis are absolutely brilliant, love so much of their stuff.

Daft Punk were only the "go to" edm band in the mainstream due to their fairly poppy style. Like most forms of music there is much more interesting stuff being made if you dig a little deeper (which you seem have done for this style of music). You should never judge an era or musical genre by it's most commercial outputs, unless its pop of course!

That's generally true (especially for edm). Rock not quite as clear cut. I can't think of too many bands that didn't have the success that they should have during the golden age - although there were some. I'm still waiting for posts of songs from bands that I might not be aware of in recent times to prove me wrong. And I really want to be proved wrong on this - I actually take no pleasure from being somewhat dismissive of the suggestions so far

I'm not one who will be able to do that, rock isn't really my area of expertise. Always been more into electronic music, soul/funk/disco, hip hop etc. All genres whose "glory days" as most see it are long gone, but there is plenty of great stuff still being released today.

If you have some free time jump on https://soundcloud.com/ and just explore what is out there that may not have made it into the mainstream. I'm on this site pretty much throughout my entire work day listening to new music.

Yet we have. Just because you don't like them, doesn't mean that they aren't great or have had success.

I think plenty of rock bands have been posted that you wouldn't have heard of and are very good bands at the moment.

WR is being almost impossible. It's like he won't admit anything is good or he really likes cos it will damage his pride.

Anywho,

I was thinking of them as a band he might like, couldn't think which song to post.

I could have posted a shitload. He wanted rock, so that fits the bill. Ironically, I think their best song is an acoustic version of one of their own.

Another good one

An epic Saturday night awaits you SM.

Haha I've just smashed through a third of the chapter so now I can go to the Swans guilt-free. :)

That's a cheap shot. Come on, you can't say the likes of the bloody Wombats are up there with The Beatles, Pink Floyd or even Bruce. There's no artists of that quality anymore - it's not even up for a serious debate. This "you're not looking hard enough" business is a fraud

Is that the criteria? The conversation started with you saying there was no 'good' music anymore and we've showed you plenty. Don't go shifting the goal posts now.

So don't compare them with those artists.

WR is right in there's no rock bands of the quality of the past. But there's definitely good bands around. Are we in a day and age where becoming that massive and good is now impossible?
