I am. The 90s rocked.

Did you go to Calder Park as well Chef? It was insane. So many people. Saw some crazy shit there which as a 12 year old at the time, gave me plenty to talk about at school in the weeks after.

That was in the early 2000s. When The Wire, The Sopranos and Deadwood was on.

Disagree. The budgets, actors, and quality of shows in the last five years has been incredible.

I've got about two hundred channels of shit to choose from on a nightly basis. I rarely find anything worth watching unless there's some football on. When all we had was four channels back in the 80s you were more likely to find something good to watch

So what that tells me is you don't know where or when to look. :)

I can't remember the last time I watched a show on my actual television set.

To be fair you wasn't around twenty or thirty years ago to make the call on whether TV is better now or then. I got virgin media installed a couple of weeks ago. Apart from now getting BT sports channels it's a waste of time. There's **** all worth watching. And I'm not bothering paying extra for Netflix

I wasn't around but I've watched a lot of old shows.

Netflix is something like 5 quid a month or something similar, you tight ass. :D

Nah, I was never into GnR. My future wife did though as a 14 year old and she has some scary stories about it, 42 degree heat, no shade, no tap water water, arseholes charging $10 for a bottle of water(a lot of money back then), not enough toilets for the massive crowd. The crowd had to be hosed down with fire hoses. I'm surprised no one died TBH, I guess the cool change that came through later that day may have saved a few lives.

I can remember a couple of guys who went fainting during grace at breakfast at school on the next day.

My media payments are already over £80 p/m cos I'm tied into a BT contract for 18 months so I'm paying for two broadband services now. Bare in mind I'm in and out of work (temping) I can't be arsed to fork out more money on something I wont watch. Rather spend the money on beer.

YouTube is probably the thing I watch most when I'm in. Wealth of good shit on there

The Use Your Illusion albums are what got me really into them. Especially with You Could Be Mine featuring heavily in Temriantor 2, one of my favorite movies at the time (and still today).

Yes the heat was unbearable that day, especially wedged in between 70,000 odd people. The water prices were extortion. You're right though, it's amazing no one was killed in the crowd crush and heat.

To be honest I didn't even last the whole concert. It was too much. Made it about half way through and I, my older brother and his mates had enough.

Almost got lost a few times too, took me a while to find my brother which as a 12 year old was some scary shit. No mobiles etc back then either.

Only The Americans is close to those shows. Breaking Bad and Mad Men are not this current era.

Game of Thrones?

I did also say the last 5 years.

T2 is awesome. Watched it the other day with my 13 year old and it's aged well.

That was in the early 2000s. When The Wire, The Sopranos and Deadwood was on.

They paved the way for what we're seeing now but that doesn't make them part of a great generation, these shows were iconic because of just how different they were, the risks they took, the creative boundaries they pushed etc.

We don't have to wait for a show come along and knock The Soprano's off its perch to see that we're in a golden generation of TV, you just have to look at the amount of ambitious shows being made now to see how things have evolved for the better. There's never been more money, more talent or more interest in quality TV than there is now and this is because of the influence of the early trend setters like Oz, The Soprano's, The Wire, Deadwood etc.

I hate it.

Fair enough for you, but as I was talking golden age regarding budget, cast, etc. you can't really deny objectively that GoT has that in abundance.

Could throw in Westworld as well. The budget and scope of shows these days is ridiculous.

TV is the new rock n roll yeah baby!

Jesus what in hell happened

100% this.

I'm with Latro.

Early 2000's TV shows > current TV shows.

That's not to say I don't enjoy some of the stuff out now of course.

I could name on one hand the great TV shows from the early 2000s. Contrast that to shows in the last 5 years?

You're obsessed with Suits and Mad Men aren't you? Let alone Game of Thrones, Westworld (which you also love), Mr Robot, True Detective (S1), and plenty of others.

Sitting at home watching the box is not my idea of a civilisation advancing in culture.

Silly WR, I've already said I can't remember the last time I watched a show on 'the box'. What do you watch your soccer on?

I like Suits and Mad Men but they are not even close to the quality of the Sopranos etc. Game of Thrones is massive now but again, doesn't get near the Sopranos for me. Haven't seen Mr Robot or True Detective yet.

You might only be able to count 5 great TV shows from that era but that doesn't mean there only was 5 great shows haha.

I watch most of it on TV. Some down the pub and none live for a number of years.

That has nothing to do with the argument though
