Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend, Cloud Nothings, Violent Soho, FIDLAR, QOTS, Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, The Smith Street Band and Wolf Alice are 'recent' bands that i love as much as any from the 90's glory days. I dont think the talent pool is as deep but theres still heaps of great music being made.

Hmmm, while I do agree that commercially, the music is kinda generic and same-y, there are many, many pieces of gold to find if you know where to dig.

As I probably noted, probably the only artist I'm a big fan of is AR Rahman. I have no loyalties with any musician, I only go with what sounds best to my ears, where ever that may be. I'll admit that there is a decent amount of video game music and worldly songs in my listings, but music can come from just about anywhere. Don't be shy to look around.

Speaking of, I think Spirit of Justice's Soundtrack is yet again a winner, absolutely fantastic music, especially with the mix of cultural music in there. It seems like any video game worth their salt needs a good soundtrack.

Bon Iver, Bloc Party, Bat for Lashes, Cut Copy, Grimes, Haim, Japandroids, Maximo Park, Phoenix, Spoon, Silversun Pickups, The Shins, TV on the Radio, Twilight Sad, Yeasayer, Wild Beasts, Walkmen, The Strokes, Sigur Ros, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Fleet Foxes, Explosions in the Sky, CHvrches, Kasabian, Tegan and Sara, Band of Horses, Ryan Adams, The Hotelier, Kings of Leon, Okkervil River, Grizzly Bear, Desth Can for Cutie.

There's loads.

So much this. I'd add The Shins, The Strokes, The War on Drugs and Royal Blood to that group.

Snap!

Muse will also be remembered because their first three albums were brilliant and something different.

Plus their live performances are renowned.

Holy Dooley... is it sad to think out of all of those bands listed by you and Chef, I can probably count the one I know with one hand. The only one that I know of in regards to the song department... well, what sort of Leicester fan would I be if I didn't know of them and their songs (to be fair, I learnt of them more than a few years ago.)

Haha I recognise and am familiar with at least half a dozen of those - and none are even close to rock royalty.

Look it's good that you enjoy a healthy interest in current music - and I understand the connection you have towards it, but come on mate get real.

The 90s were not the "glory days" not even close to it. And that's my era.

They sell out all their shows? The music landscape has changed thanks to the Internet but every concert I've been to in the bands mentioned above, always sell out.

They get critically raved about too. It's ok if you haven't listened to them or you don't like them but that doesn't mean they aren't considered great bands/artists.

Time always makes people look back fondly on anything as you remember the great times. Perhaps you had amazing sex to Led Zeppelin and that's why no one holds a candle to them - and that's fine, but to say that there isnt great music is ridiculous.

Arctic monkeys would be the biggest band of the most recent decade or so. As would KOL.

I actually like KoL (seen them four times) although only rate their first three albums. The last AM's album was really good - although not a big fan of their early stuff unlike most.

That music is as good as anything the 90s had to offer for rock and the 80s too. I don't think it stacks up to the very best from the 60s snd 70s though - that music is probably untouchable now. Although yes I understand what you are saying about personal connections heightening music - but my era is 80's/90's not 60's/70's so my connection to my favourite artists in that sense is less.

To me they are. Personal taste and all that.

Everyones going to have a different opinion and different tastes. The joy of music. There is no right answer.

Would you say the same of someone who loves Justin Bieber or One Direction, but couldn't stand the sound of Mozart, Bach or the Beatles?

See this guy understands it. I guess the taste gene is stronger in some than others

I'm not saying there isn't good music today because there's plenty. I just dont see much of it being around in 30 years time.
