You mean those two pop songs written by the band and all the musical instruments played in both songs played by all the band members. Cos it's a band.

Etc. usually means there are others too, not just those two.

It's fine mate, you think they were a different genre when they started than I do, it's not the end of the world. You also don't need to be condescending about it.

I would consider The Beatles to be a boy band at the start. They were a group of young males who had a huge fan girl base, commercial success, and sang simple love songs. To me, that constitutes a boy band even though that term refers to the likes of 1D, Backstreet Boyd and NSYNC these days. The only difference is that The Beatles a) had talent, b) played instruments and c) wrote their own songs.
That a chasm of difference. Like a yawning gap!

But One Direction is a bunch of limited singers who look nice. Who have their lyrics and music written for them. Then they sing the lyrics with massive help from auto tune. One Direction certainly at the start were almost Milli Vanilli. Great looking kids, plastered over somebody else's work.

They are nothing like The Beatles. Nothing!

Where did I say that their quality was remotely close to The Beatles? I think I even explicitly said I wasn't comparing the quality, just the genre of music both have started their careers with.

Not really. It doesnt say much.

It basically makes the same case that I did that they started as a boy band with bubblegum lyrics and that their producer designed them that way to maximise their popularity. You're in a very argumentative mood tonight.

You're changing the argument now. You said One Direction are the 21st Century Beatles.

So just because The Beatles started with pop songs and 1D had pop songs written for them and both were very popular, they are the 21st Century Beatles?

Haha ok.

Im not argumentative I just find what you said to be hilarious.

I couldnt think of two musical acts further apart than One Direction and The Beatles. :D

I didn't change anything, I clarified what I meant well before you chimed in.It's not my fault you're choosing to ignore certain comments so that you can prolong this. Enjoy your night.

So is Cruyff really a fan of 1D?
I like one of two or their songs.

If anybody released a song like that, I would like it. Regardless of who they were.

----

Also, Lady Gaga belongs in awesome musicians of the 21st century.

Just like a few of Bieber's latest are actually decent. Singers can progress and mature.

Loved this version of it:

Yeah not bad, never seen them live but saw a Glastonbury performance on TV and was suitably impressed.

Live performances for me though are best when you take a song and do something different with it. Check this out, I think it's better than the studio version. That guitar tone...

Some of the bands being listed in the last few pages I've never heard of. In fact I would say 9 out of 10 I didn't even know existed.

Here you go then. Biffy being awesome. Cracking video too.

Bit emo'ish for my tastes. It's alright on first listen - big sound although a little generic. What let's it down for me are the vocals - just didn't like them.

5/10

I'm waiting.

I'll start you off with this one. Favourite Coldplay tune

In the same breath you say you're waiting for good music from the 21st Century and post one. :P

Every time you post you seem to be spoiling for a fight!

It's not like there is no good music at all in the last 15 years - just quite significantly down on previous decades. Actually I did say I haven't heard a good new song on the radio in the last two years though
