Etc. usually means there are others too, not just those two.

I would consider The Beatles to be a boy band at the start. They were a group of young males who had a huge fan girl base, commercial success, and sang simple love songs. To me, that constitutes a boy band even though that term refers to the likes of 1D, Backstreet Boyd and NSYNC these days. The only difference is that The Beatles a) had talent, b) played instruments and c) wrote their own songs.

That a chasm of difference. Like a yawning gap!

But One Direction is a bunch of limited singers who look nice. Who have their lyrics and music written for them. Then they sing the lyrics with massive help from auto tune. One Direction certainly at the start were almost Milli Vanilli. Great looking kids, plastered over somebody else's work.

They are nothing like The Beatles. Nothing!

Just like a few of Bieber's latest are actually decent. Singers can progress and mature.

Yeah not bad, never seen them live but saw a Glastonbury performance on TV and was suitably impressed.

Live performances for me though are best when you take a song and do something different with it. Check this out, I think it's better than the studio version. That guitar tone...

It's not like there is no good music at all in the last 15 years - just quite significantly down on previous decades. Actually I did say I haven't heard a good new song on the radio in the last two years though
