It isn't the best system. Brexit would've been acceptable if voting was mandatory. At te very least 75% turnout should've been the minimum.

The majority of Americans voted for Trump because he is anti-establishment and they're fed up with the current political system in the States, after the deadlock in the House for the last 8 years and the increasingly partisan nature of the political system in that country.
